A/N: Hello everyone. Another chapter and tons of Alia and Loki feels. This chapter is interesting because they're really warming up to each other. I also updated the cover! I hope you guys are liking the story.
We had stopped running and stopped in front of a huge door. I was out of breath and leaning against the door. Loki was eyeing me and laughing. “Not that I don’t enjoy you panting for breath, but I believe you’re a bit out of shape” he said. I gaped. But then a thought came to mind. “Well I mean I have been tortured my whole life and held captive” I said looking away.
“Alia, I…” but Loki stopped when he noticed my smile. “Very funny” he said. I laughed and held out my hand. “Show me something interesting” I said. He took my hand and opened the door. His hand was soft and cool in mine. I resisted the urge to run my thumb across his. We entered a giant library. I looked around and my jaw dropped. “The palace itself has a library of Asgardian literature, but THIS is every book imaginable. Midgardian even. I quite like a playwright named Shakespeare” Loki told me. I wanted to tell him that I had a friend who loved Shakespeare and we were both once in Hamlet but those were fake memories. Everything was fake memories until I was thrown into a jail cell.
I took it all in. “This is gorgeous” I breathed out. Loki smiled. “You opened up about how you were feeling. I’m not great at that so I’ll open up my getaway” he said. We walked hand in hand through the corridors. He told me about the authors or books he liked. I told him that I read in my fake memories but can actually remember the plot lines. “Then you’ve really read them. Maybe parts of what you’ve been through are good things.” Loki said. “Thank you for trying to trying to find the silver lining Loki but this still sucks” I said. Loki frowned. “Do you remember what book was ‘your favorite’?” he asked. I thought for a moment.
There had been this book that I could read over and over again. “Perks of Being A Wallflower. I remember that I ‘read’ it 3 times. I highlighted my favorite parts…” My voice cut off and I wrapped my arms around myself, dropping his hand. “Alia…” Loki said softly. I turned away from him but he stepped in front of me and held out a book with a green cover. ‘Perks Of Being a Wallflower’
My heart jumped and did weird twists in my chest. I felt tears welling up and I covered my mouth. Loki moved my hand carefully and tilted my head up. “You are young and you will live a life here where you were born” he said, trying to comfort me. I nodded and tried to smile. “I know.” Loki took my hand and led me to a table in the center of the library. A thick book that said “Shakespeare Collection” was sitting on the table. Loki opened to ‘Hamlet’. Now I smiled. “I like that he writes of betrayal and tragedy. It’s so much truer to life than happy endings” Loki said.
My mouth failed me. I let a small whimper out. “Loki…” but I bit back the rest of the sentence. I decided to go a different route. “I highly doubt that declaring undying love for each other after one meeting is true to life” I joked. Loki laughed and seemed thoughtful. “Love is for children” he said with a look of remembrance in his eyes. I let go of his hand and caressed the book of plays and sonnets. I flipped through the pages with love and care. Loki’s hand caught mine. They were like magnets. Smooth and cold and always finding mine. I looked at him through my eyelashes and he looked down.
He was tall. I hadn’t paid much mind until now but I only barely reached his chest. He was right when he said that Asgardians were beautiful... but he wasn’t a true Asgardian. So why was he so painful to look at? With his pale skin, luminescent green eyes, and hair the color of night. I realized I had stopped breathing and took a deep breath. I didn’t like how this was playing out. I was being foolish. ‘Love is for children’, he said.
I moved away from him and headed for the door. He had stayed where he was and I waited. “You coming? I thought I’d practice with my powers before dinner” I said. I swore I heard Loki sigh. “Actually, I’d love a trip to my old chambers. A bath sounds lovely” he was behind me now and his words were loud in my ear. I know I was blushing but I kept my face down. “And you expect me to come in there with you?” I asked. Loki was snickering. “I would never tell you that you couldn’t but if you’re embarrassed, you may read in my room” he said. I wiped my face with my hands and pulled myself together. I could feel Loki shaking with laughter beside me. He placed his hand on my back and my skin burned despite the coolness of his skin. “Let’s just go” I said stomping off. I could still hear Loki laughing as I walked ahead of him.
We reached his door and he opened it with a royal grace. His room was, of course, very green. He walked in and threw his black jacket on the bed. He was wearing a green button up shirt under it tucked into black pants with thigh high black boots. He smirked. “Joining me in the bathroom or not?” he asked. I rolled my eyes and sat down on his bed. “Well now you’re just being suggestive” he picked. I willed a pillow to hit him in the face.
“I think you’re more in control of that than you think”
“I think you think you’re more attractive than you are”
Wow. Nice Alia. Loki made an offended sound. “Then you can just stay out here.” He shut the bathroom door and I heard water running. I opened the book Loki had found for me and began reading. The words jumping out at me like the blurred memories they were. I read until I heard Loki shuffling around in the bathroom. The door opened and I attempted to keep reading. But I heard his wardrobe door creek open and my eyes lifted for a moment. They landed on Loki standing by his wardrobe with just a towel on his waist. His muscles were lean and water was dripping off his black hair and onto his chest. I threw the book over my face and refrained from making a comment. I was just hoping he didn’t drop the towel.
Or was I?
I cursed myself and flipped the page. Through the corner of my eye, I saw Loki holding clothes and going back into the bathroom. He stopped and turned to me. “I hope you aren’t too flustered. I really don’t want you falling in love with me. I mean I can hardly bare to spend a day with you. It would make things awkward” He went on. I put my book down and glared at him. My momentary admiration for him went away. I willed his towel to fall and Loki jumped into the bathroom. I fell off the bed in laughter. It wasn’t at him or anything. I had hardly glanced what he looked like. It was at his reaction. “Oh come on Loki, I thought you were more comfortable with yourself than that” I called. “Curse you Alia Winter” he hissed. I laughed harder and I heard him shut the bathroom door. Suddenly a wave of emotion hit me. I felt guilty.
I propped myself up against the bed and put my head on my knees. The door reopened and I heard his footsteps. But he didn’t stop to speak to me. He walked right out of his room. I had embarrassed the cocky god of mischief. Annnnd I let him out of my sight. I lifted up and ran after him.
I didn’t know where to go to find him. The library? Outside? I sighed and leaned against the wall. I heard talking and dunked behind a corner. The familiar voices of Thor and Fandral were getting closer. “Is she mad for trusting Loki?”
“I think not. My brother is not as evil as he may seem. I think she sees good in him”
“I think she sees lies”
“My brother does not lie to her. I heard them together earlier running through the castle. He was laughing. They are friends”
“Is that it?”
“You think it is more?”
“I think she hopes that. And I think she’s going to get her heart broken”
Their voices faded and I slumped down to the floor. I needed to find Loki. The sun was setting and dinner would be soon. There was only one way I knew to do this. I shut my eyes and focused. Loki, Loki, Loki, Loki, I thought. I opened my eyes and stumbled forward. I was outside my chambers. I opened the door and saw Loki standing by the bed. “You came here?” I asked.
A/N: A lightheared moment took quite the turn there! What's next for the two cell-mates? Feedback is always welcome!
