I was falling. A million hands tried to catch me and call out to me. I wanted to scream but my voice failed me. Right before I landed, I bolted awake. I was gasping for breath. I looked over. Loki was smiling. “I can’t tell if that was a nightmare or not” he said slyly.
“Ha.” I glared at him. I raised up and smoothed my shirt out. Loki was eyeing me. “See something you like, God?” I asked in his tone. Loki just laughed. “Cute impression but I’m afraid you have me wrong. I see nothing I like.” I rolled my eyes. “You know you don’t have to be such an asshole” I said. Loki growled. “There’s that word again. You and your profanities.”
Right on time, Herco was coming towards me. “Well Loki as much as I enjoy our chats, I must be going.” With that, I left to go see Frigga. This time I didn’t look back at Loki.
“Hello dear. Are you ready for your bath? I’ll go prepare you a plate of food” Frigga greeted me. “Thank you so much” I murmured. She ran me a bath in a big elegant golden tub. I stripped down and slid in. Frigga disappeared to get me something to eat. Nothing had ever felt better than that water. It was hot and smelled like lilac. I cleaned up with some soap and shampoo that smelled like jasmine and honey. When I dipped my head under the water to finish washing, Frigga returned. She laid out a blue and silver robe for me and told me that after I was done, the food was out there.
I pulled on the clothes and tied part of my hair back. My skin and hair were clean and I finally felt like I looked nice. I walked out and Frigga smiled. “Asgardian robes suit you well” she said. A plate of fruit and another of meats sat in front of her along with two golden glasses. The food was delicious and I could feel my health improving with every bite. Frigga smiled at me. She was so beautiful. Thor looked a great deal like her. “My dear, I hate to make the subject grim but I’m afraid it’s time to discuss what I know about you” her eyes clouded over when she said it. My heart felt like it might explode. “What do you know about me?” I asked. Frigga frowned and began to speak.
“You were born of Asgard. Your parents were Oryan and Viv Winter. You were born with wonderful powers and all of the realms knew of this. Your parents were killed by an alien named Krutos who took you to his home planet where his entire race was killed. He raised you and controlled your mind to think that you were a human on Earth. You would have nightmares but it was actually reality seeping through. You were able to break away and we believe that he found himself defenseless and threw you into a void. Your mind and your powers worked together and brought you here but the stress on you wiped your memory. Your nightmares are the things that Krutos put you through.”
My heart fell into my stomach. A pain erupted in my head. I saw faces, I heard voices, and suddenly everything came back to me. I fell to the floor and blacked out.
My eyes opened and Frigga and Thor were standing over me. “Lady Winter, I understand that you are feeling very stressed. Is there anything we can do for you?” Thor asked. I shook my head slowly. “Just take me back to my cell. I don’t want to face all of this just yet” I whispered. “I understand. We will take you back tonight. Tomorrow, you will be freed” Thor said. I didn’t even want to think about it. I simply nodded and lifted up with ease. I bowed to Frigga and half-smiled at Thor. Herco wordlessly took me back to my cell. I watched as he left.
I felt my emotions crashing into one another. I finally fell to my knees and began sobbing. I felt a weight around my shoulders...figuratively and literally. The green blanket had returned. “Alia…” Loki’s voice was soft. I looked up at him. He was concerned. Loki was concerned about me. No, this had to be a joke. “What?” I asked. Loki bit his lip. “Are you alright?” he asked. I shook my head. “Loki, I know everything now” I told him. “I didn’t want you to” he whispered. My head shot up. “What are you talking about?” I demanded. Loki looked down and took a deep breath.
“Ever since your first nightmare, I’ve known. I went into your head. But the things I saw… I thought a clueless life was better. I am sorry” Loki had never seemed so sincere and yet, the words made me angry. I felt ill. “You should have told me!” I screamed. Loki stepped back. “Do you know everything? Even about my powers?” I asked. Loki cleared his throat. “I knew you could do things of course but when you teleported, I was shocked. Things made more sense after ” he said. I screamed in anguish and laid flat on my back. “Alia, I am sorry. Do you not understand that? Are you still that clueless?” I was up on my feet and in front of the glass in an instant.
“How dare you?!” I closed my eyes and imagined getting to smack him in the face. I heard a gasp and opened my eyes. I was in Loki’s cell, standing in front of him. I jumped back. “You…” but my hand contacted with his face. It was loud and stung my hand. Loki was breathing heavy. “I don’t think I’ve ever liked you more” he said laughing. I couldn’t help but smile too. “Sorry but I had to do that” I said. Loki shrugged. He seemed impressed.
“It’s perfectly fine. I suppose I deserved it” he said.
“Loki?” I asked.
“Hmm?”
I didn’t have anything to say. I just wrapped my arms around him. He tightened up and I heard him swallow. Slowly, his arms came around me too. “Do you want to talk about it? I know it's got to be eating at you” Loki offered. “Why are you being so nice?” I asked. “Because I know how it feels to find out the truth and not want it.”
I squeezed Loki to me. I felt his lips brush my hair. I didn't want to release him but I did. He looked down and he smiled at me. I willed myself back to my own cell in case the guards came around. We sat across from each other and even though he already knew, I told him what Frigga told me. And even though he knew, he listened. “I can remember the fake memories you know? I had friends, a family, and a school. Now I just feel robbed.” I told him.
“Loki, tell me about you. I… I have to leave tomorrow and I’m tired of things being about me. What truth were you told?” I requested. Loki looked away. “No Alia… now is not the time to worry about me. Perhaps we will meet again. Then I will tell you” I wanted to argue it but I didn’t bother. “What did you mean when you said I look Asgardian?” I asked. The question had been weighing on me ever since he said it. Loki looked me in the eyes and I felt weak. His eyes were so gloriously green. “I meant… that you’re beautiful” he said. My jaw dropped and he smirked. “Don’t let it get to your head. There are plenty of beautiful people out there and it doesn’t mean I like them”
“You said you liked me”
“No, I said I never liked you more and that was because you smacked me”
I smirked. “Of course. Well Loki... I’ll miss you” I wasn’t sure I would until then. But Loki was a comfort. He was the first person here to show me kindness. He was infuriating and I hated his attitude. But he was beautiful and he had a heart under his cold exterior. He was oddly my friend. And I would miss the comfort of someone who understood me. Loki smiled. “Get some rest. You’ll need it if you are to see Odin tomorrow” he said.
He laughed a bit but the sound was bitter. The way he laughed when I said mean things to him. I turned away from the glass and grabbed the blanket. A futon appeared in my cell with a pillow at one end. I turned around and Loki bowed. “You deserve a night of comfort” he said. I curled up onto the black leather futon and fell asleep.
LOKI’S POV
I knew that after tonight, Odin would allow her to sleep in the chambers of the palace but I gave her the futon anyway. There was no point in sleeping on the floor anymore. My body still tingled from her touch. I stared at her sleeping soundly. When she had began to cry and shake, I hated knowing what I did. And in that moment, she was tolerable. When she smacked me, she was impressive. When she hugged me, she was foolish. When I hugged back, I was. She told me she would miss me and I couldn't hide that I felt a pull in my heart. I would miss my cell-mate. I would miss arguing with her and the way she looked with her disheveled black shirt. I’d miss the moments where she brought me back to humanity and I’d miss the moments where she pushed me beyond fury. I would continue my life in my cell the way I had before she showed up. I would return to solitude and that sounded just fine. She would get to live and I would rot where Odin threw me. I closed my eyes. I let her see me vulnerable and now I was exposed. But tomorrow when we said our goodbyes, I’d make sure she wouldn’t return here
A/N: oh what is to happen between these two? Loki seems to find her unevering. I wonder why.
