A/N: So this is the first chapter of a book I had wrote a little while back, where the main character is the second youngest Shepard. I never published it because I didn't really like tbh.
I walked down the dark alley knowing tonight was going to end in a fight. I had always been a bit crazy, but today I was stretching my limits. My brother, Tim, wanted me to pick up a "package " from some guy in a dark alley. I had to get the package without paying because, apparently, Tim didn't have the money to pay, but he needs this shit now.
A dark shape came out of the shadow of the alley with cat like quietness. I turned towards the figure, trying to look as scary as possible. I must not have looked very scary because the man gave a snort and shook his head.
"Tim sent a little girl to collect this shit?" The man chuckled dangerously.
I looked the guy up and down. He had on a baggy sweatshirt and jeans, but I could tell he was a soc. I think his name was Bob or something.
"I got the cash," I muttered, gritting my teeth. It was so easy to lie to morons like the Socs. He nodded his head and he tossed me the bag, like a complete moron. Of course I was going to run.
"WOAH, YOU LITTLE BITCH!" he screamed after me, causing me to run harder. I heard his thumping footsteps on the ground, but I knew the streets of down town Tulsa better than him. I weaved through the buildings, leaving the poor guy without his one thousand dollars and whatever was in the package.
I had made about ten blocks when I crashed into a hard object. It caught me off guard and caused me to land hard on my ass. I let out a groan and I began to pull myself off the ground.
"Watch where you're going next time," the boy growled at me. He had whitish blonde hair and a cruel look on his face.
"Sooooorry," I sassed. This guy was being kind of a douche. It wasn't like I smacked into him on purpose.
"Y/n?" a voice called out from beside the arrogant boy. I recognized the voice almost immediately and looked up at the sweetheart of a boy.
"Hey, Johnnycakes!" I exclaimed. I hadn't seen him since the party two months ago and I was beginning too miss the adorable little greaser.
"How do y'all know each other?" The blonde asked, clearly confused. Man, he doesn't seem very smart.
"I've known, San, since we were little kids, Dal," Johnny explained. Dal or whatever gave a bit of a nod and returned his icy blue eyes on me. I could already tell I wasn't going to like this kid.
"Yeah, Dal," I drawled, giving him an innocent smile. He gave me the dirtiest look, but I doubted that he would do anything to me. He looked like the kind of guy that knew my brothers, so I was sure if he laid a hand on me they'd be after his ugly ass.
"How've y'all been since Curly was thrown into that.... reformatory?" Johnny questioned, trying to be polite. I'm sure he could tell that Dal and I weren't really digging each other.
"Eh, Curly's been long over due for reforming. Maybe this time he'll be smart enough not to get caught," I scoffed. Johnny nodded his head, looking up to the sky.
"Are you going to be at the party tomorrow?" he questioned.
"Yeah, man! I never pass up a chance to get ripped!" I exclaimed, throwing my long blonde hair out of my face. Dal chuckled, shaking his head.
"Man, you and Steve seem to be alike," Dal murmured quietly. I smirked up at him, not sure how to take that comment.
"Well I gotta get this package back to Tim before he has a mental break down."
"Yeah, I guess. Oh, I forgot to mention, the gang has been missing you," Johnny commented, glancing up at me with his puppy eyes before looking back down.
"You know exactly why I left Johnnycakes," I muttered, fidgeting with the box. He simply nodded his head. I took that as my cue to leave.
As I continued my walk to my house, I thought back to my times with the gang. Sure, it had been fun, but we were little. Even when I was younger I knew I was destined for a life of hardcore gang affiliation. I mean, with brothers like Tim and Curly, What was I expected to do? Angela got off lucky, getting a full ride to college and everything. She had always been smart, unlike the rest of us Shepards. So, I cut myself off from the lively boys. It hurt, but it was the only way I could keep them safe. Hell, it was the only way I could feel safe. Knowing they weren't going to get hurt because of me was all I needed.
I shook myself out of my dark thoughts and continued walking, glancing around. I hated the feeling of someone watching me, but unfortunately I felt like that a lot.
I walked up the front steps of my rickety home and swung open the door. My eyes widened as I saw Two-bit and Tim sitting around the table, bullshitting as if they were best friends.
"Hey, Two!" I exclaimed, running over to the lovable boy. I dropped the package on the table and engulfed him in a large hug.
"Y/n!"
After a few moments Tim let out an uncomfortable cough. I released Two from my death hold and turned to Tim with a smile.
"I see you got the package," he observed, pointing out the obvious.
"And I did it without paying!" I announced, feeling like a little kid who did something to please their parents. He smiled at me, pulling my head into a headlock. I let out a loud laugh, giving him a hard punch to the ribs. He chuckled, pretending to give me an uppercut to the stomach. I squirmed out of his grip and Two gave me a wide smile.
"Well, Two, what are you doing in my lovely home?" I asked, sitting down on one of the old kitchen chairs. He grimaced, shaming his head.
"Nothing we can talk about now."
I nodded my head, leaving the room. Clearly, there was things that needed to be said without me there. It didn't bother me much, Tim would tell me what got said anyways.
I changed into some baggy clothes and got into my patched up bed. I finally closed my eyes, ending the long night.
