"Mom, Sadie's here!" I exclaim.

"Okay, one minute." she yells back

Today's October 10th. There are exactly eleven days until Halloween and I am literally counting down the days.

Hawkins, Indiana goes big for Halloween and when I say big, I mean it. I'm talking at least three haunted houses a night, leading up to Halloween.

Since we live in such a small town, each family is in charge of running at least one haunted house. On average each family hosts about two or three. Some people rent out places to host their haunted house, while others just use their garage, like my family. We got lucky enough this year to host ours on Halloween night.

Tonight Sadie (my best friend) and I are going to the Byers haunted house, the Harrington's and then the pudding family's. Sadie and I call them the pudding family because their son goes to our school and always begs the cafeteria ladies for more pudding at lunch.

On the walk there Sadie and I were talking about who was going to scream first when all of a sudden she says

"We need to find you a guy!"

"Excuse me?" I say choking on my Mountain Dew.

"Come on!" She says. "Ever since we were four you would tell me all about your vision of the perfect guy. You even made up stories about him."

"If I find a guy, you find a guy." I say

"Absolutely not!" she replies "I'm too shy and nervous of a person. Guys don't like shy book obsessed girls."

"yes they do! Talking about books, have you finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire yet?" I ask, trying to change the subject.

"Yes, may Cedric Diggory rest in peace." she says, pretending to cry.

Finally we arrived at the Haunted house. The man at the front of the house hands us a flashlight.

"Thank you Mr. Byers ." I say.

"Oh, I'm not Mr. Byers dear." he replies. "I'm Mr. Wolfhard, the Byers moved out last week."

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"It's okay, my wife, son and I just moved here- actually here he is now."

A boy with Dark brown hair and brown eyes walked up to Mr. Wolfhard. It seemed as if he had a million freckles on his face.

"Hi, I'm Finn." he says, breaking the silence.

"I-I'm Millie." I stutter.

"and I'm Sadie."

"I'm sorry Finn, I have to go hand out flashlights . Nice meeting you." Mr. Wolfhard says, rushing off.

"On a scale from one to ten, how scary do you think your haunted house is?" I ask

"Well I think it's one of the scariest ones here." he says

" Oh really." I say amused. "You think it's worth going in?"

"oh, absolutely." he replies, while writing something down on a tiny piece of paper. "In fact, tell me what you think. I'm leaving in a few minutes so you'll have to text me."

He gives me the paper.

"See you Millie." he says as a car pulls up.

"See you." I say as he climbs in.

"Oh my God!" Sadie exclaims. "That guy just gave you his number!"

"So." I say, trying to hide my smile.

"Sometimes your total obliviousness just blows my mind." She says as we head into the house.
