Moon's POV
Winter's blue scales appeared near the entrance of the library and she smiled. That's a little weird though... She thought, placing a history scroll back in its place. I didn't get any thoughts from him.
'Hey Moon, I'm here,' Winter's calm voice called out in her mind. She relaxed a little. So he doesn't have skyfire if I can still hear his thoughts... what did he do?
"Hey Starflight, can I go?" Moon asked the NightWing behind the desk. Fatsepeaker was standing next to him, reading out of a scroll.
Both looked up at her voice. Starflight turned his head toward her and nodded, nudging Fatespeaker and telling her to continue.
She nodded, even though he couldn't see it, and continued reading.
"What do you want to do?" Winter asked as she stepped out of the library. His cool blue wing slid across her back as soon as she reached his side.
Moon shrugged, looking around the halls. Students were everywhere, standing idly in the halls or chatting with their friends as they made their way outside, or toward the library. Most of the dragons heading toward he library were NightWings and RainWings.
'Do you want to go outside?' Winter asked, his thoughts sounding softer.
She shrugged. And Winter took that as a yes. He led her out toward the bright, dazzling sunshine and toward a flat rock that was partially in the shade. But a large portion of the rock was exposed to the sun.
Winter settled on the small part that was protected by the shade of a nearby pine tree. Moon settled next to him, keeping her tail and tips of her wings in the sunlight.
The two sat there in awkward silence until Winter accidentally broke it.
"So it does work," he muttered, staring down at the ground, his face scrunched up. "I'll have to thank her later."
"Thank who?" Moon asked, suspicion gathering in her voice. Winter's head jolted up, his eyes full of surprise when she said that.
"How did you know?" he asked, his voice rising.
Moon sent him a slightly hurt and confused look. "You think out loud sometimes," she explained. Standing up and moving in the light.
Winter's POV
Danggit, I should be more careful about what I say, I should try to think just inside my head... Winter thought, clawing at the pine needles in front of him.
He turned his head toward Moon when he felt a wing on his back. She was standing over him, smiling lovingly down at him. Winter was a little confused. What had caused her sudden change in personality and action?
"I have to go for a while," she said, hugging him tightly.
"Wait why?" Winter asked quickly, standing up and causing Moon to loose balance for a second before he caught her.
"I visit my mother in the rainforest every few weeks, and I promised that I would come at the beginning of the month," She touched her forehead thoughtfully. "I think it'll take me two days to get there, and I should really check on Hope and Peacemaker."
Winter's expression darkened when she mentioned "Peacemaker", memories of Darkstalker swirled through his mind, before he realized that he'd forgotten to block his mind from Moon. He looked down to see her expression, and saw that she was staring at him worriedly.
"He's really not that bad," she said softly into his ear. "I can hardly see Darkstalker in him, he's like a totally different dragon."
Winter pulled out of her hug and took her talons in his. "Just be careful alright?" he asked, resting his forehead against hers. "Promise me that you won't let anything happen, and if anything bad happens, find a way to tell me right away," he let go of one of her talons and grabbed her chin. Tilting it upward so that she met his eyes.
He waited.
She sighed and smiled a little. "Promise."
"Thank you," he said, a little teasingly. He leaned forward, noticing Moon lean forward too.
The gap between them closed and Winter felt the sharp icicles in his heart melting to water. The kiss lasted a few minutes before they pulled away, their lungs begging for air.
Winter smiled widely. I look like a dork don't I? He asked her.
She giggled and tapped his nose lightly with her finger. "You are a dork Winter," she hugged him before turning around and preparing to leave. "But you're my dork," and with those final words. She pumped her wings and lifted off, leaving a blushing, flustered IceWing behind her.
