Rose POV
I woke up at seven, like I did every morning before school, and threw the blankets off of my body before crawling out of bed. I wasn't a 'morning person' and I don't think I ever have been. I would be happy sleeping until noon, but my parents would never allow it. Russell, on the other hand, was the lucky one as always. I couldn't count how many times he had missed school due to just sleeping in. I sighed, glancing at the clock before starting my morning routine.
Usually, my mornings went by quickly. I would brush my teeth and then occasionally style my hair and apply minimal makeup before throwing on an outfit for the day. My mornings were only dragged out because I would stall by playing on my phone, scrolling through Instagram or texting my few friends back. My morning ended with breakfast which I ate downstairs at the island.
Today I headed downstairs to see my mother standing at the fridge and my dad at the island, shoving papers into his briefcase. I poured myself a bowl of cereal in silence before taking my seat on one of the stools. I was the first to speak up, "So, about last night-"
My dad's head snapped up, shoulders tensing. "Sorry honey I've got to head out for work," he hesitated, "And quite frankly I don't think there's anything to discuss." Before I could say anything else he closed the case, slinging the strap of the leather bag over his shoulder.
When we heard the front door shut my mom let out a sigh, closing the refrigerator. "Where is Russell?" I asked, taking a bite of the sugary cereal.
"He locked his door last night and," Her eyes trailed down to the counter. she let out a light, dry laugh and shook her head, "He wouldn't let us in or talk to me. I've gotten used to it." She looked back up with a smile but I could tell it was forced, "I'm sure he's still asleep."
"Before you leave will you go up and knock on his door and tell him he needs to get ready for school. I am going to head to the store is there anything you want me to grab for you?" she says as she grabs her keys and purse and heads to the front door. I reply with a no and then I hear the front door slam quietly.
After I finish my cereal, I put my bowl away and head upstairs to Russell's door. I start lightly knocking on his door repeatedly until I hear him get up and open the door. He looks down at me and asks, "What the hell do you want?" Taken back by his words I quietly say "Mom just wanted me to wake you up for school before I leave." He rolls his eyes and ends up slamming the door in my face.
After standing there like a statue for a moment, I head downstairs to grab my backpack and jacket just in case it rains. I head out the door, putting my headphones in as I walk to school. On my way, all I could think about was what happened last night. I really hope I can avoid Ashton today I really don't want to face him after last night.
______________
As soon as I got to school I look at my watch and see that it is 8:10, school doesn't officially start till 8:30. I usually get to school around the same time every day, so I have time to go my locker to get my books for my morning classes. Plus Calum and Penny usually meet me at my locker, but today it was only Calum. I was kinda thankful that Penny wasn't here because I do not want to talk about what happened last night right now.
"Hey Rose, have you talked to Penny? Her car wasn't here when I got here this morning." Calum asks, running his hand through his dark hair as I opened my locker.
I was really hoping he wouldn't say anything about her but it's always strange if one of us is missing. Did she avoid coming here because of last night? I wouldn't blame her, it was extremely embarrassing, and I don't want to tell Calum yet if I don't have to. I glanced over to see Ashton at his locker with Michael by his side. As soon as we locked eyes I returned my attention back to Calum, quickly replying with a no. I grab books that I need and we head to first period together.
