C a r t e r

It's five in the morning and I'm still up.

I'm trying to find a way to get Johns stuff out of here and send it to him, getting the key from him, and everything.

"Fuck."I mutter, rubbing my temples with the on coming headache that's going to come.

"Fuck this."I mumble, shutting off my laptop, and TV, before grabbing my wallet, keys and phone, leaving my Boston apartment, and driving to dunks.

It's not uncommon to find a dunks around boston, to be honest, the motto, 'America Runs on Dunkin,' it should be changed to 'Boston Runs on Dunkin.'

I think my whole childhood growing up, my mother brought home dunks every night on her way home for me and my brother.

Crash and Burn comes on, as I hop on 4-95 for a surprise visit to my mother.

And I guess I'll have to wait to get my dunks.

Massachusetts doesn't have many singers from here, at least country singers, besides Jo Dee Messina.

It takes a little bit, maybe a half an hour, at least to get to Bellingham, and I take a left, going to dunks, getting two coffees, a tea for me, and munchkins for my niece.

By now, it's 6, and my mother should be up, My brother Jason and his daughter Elise will probably be up in the next hour.

As I arrive at my mothers house, I have to park on the grass, which will probably piss her off, but she doesn't have any room in her driveway.

I hop out of my truck, and make my way into the backyard to find my mother sitting on the back porch, having her morning coffee.

"I hope you want more coffee because I stopped by dunks."I chuckle softly, placing everything down, and she hugs me smiling.

"I always want coffee carter."She chuckles, as we sit back down.

"Why do you even like coffee?"I question, as we stare out into the trees, and she laughs.

"Because Baby Girl,"She Pauses for a moment, "It's the thing that keeps me running when I have to deal with dumbasses all day."

My mother never drove into Boston, but sure as hell was close at times for a few jobs, until she finally decided to work at home.

"What made you take a trip down to your hometown?"Mama questions, and I sigh..

"I needed to get out, and I missed you guys, it's been awhile,"I start, and mama nods for me to continue.

"I'm trying to figure out a way to get John out of the apartment, like his stuff, get him to hand over my key, and get it so he won't ignore the restraining order."I Explain And She Nods..

"You know your daddy still works at the police department, have him knock some sense into John."She kisses the top of my head and I nod, blowing out some air.

My mother and father got divorced a year after we moved to Boston, my mother moved back to Bellingham, while my father stayed in Boston, And they're still on good terms to this day.

"Is that Carter Mae I see?"Jason's voice snaps me out of my thoughts and a smirk grows on my lips.

"I dunno, is it?"I taunt, and Jason laughs, sitting next to me on my right with mama on my left.

"Can I go wake up my niece now?"I Ask and Jason laughs nodding.

I get up out of my chair, and make my way down to the basement where my old bedroom was as a teenager, and where Elise is now.

I brush out her brown locks out of her eyes, as she stirs, and I smile.

She's only four, but she's short like me, and it's sad to think that Jason's wife left them after Elise was born.

After a few minutes, her hazel eyes open up, and as soon as she catches sight of me, her eyes light up.

"Auntie Mae!"Elise exclaims, jumping Into my arms, and I smile, getting up and placing her on my hip.

"Hey baby girl."I kiss the top of her head, and walking outside.
