Angel slowly made her way over the house phone, with the help of Tonya. She winced in pain as she used her right arm to grab the phone, but in effect that caused her wounds to open a bit. A trickle of blood seeped into her bandages. She managed through the pain and dialed Jaylynn's cell phone number.
Angel flipped her hair to one side as she placed the phone up to her ear. The phone rand and rang, but Jaylynn never did pick up the phone. Angel was then being to get worried as her best friend was always near her phone. She decided that she would give up for now and try again later to see if she was okay.
The two girls had been best friends since the fourth grade, the year Angel was new to their school. She was a friend of Mikayla's, Angel's family friend, but she didn't know anyone else. Jaylynn approached her one asking her name. The two girls hit it off and they have been inseparable since.
They've always been there for each other, but now Angel wasn't there for Jaylynn. She felt that nagging feeling again inside her body. The feeling of helplessness over coming her like an ocean crashing against a rocky bank.
"I dunno what you up here look'in sad fo, but she'll be 'aight," Tonya said in a ghetto tone.
"Girl if you don't take a seat somewhere," Angel replied to Tonya while rolling her eyes. She turned her back to her sister and hobbled off to their front door where she struggled to open it. Tonya walked over to help her, but Angel just shooed her away. After a time, she finally got the door open and looked through the screen door.
She saw scattered dead bodies throughout the street. Some where oozing a green liquid and others were just half alive, dragging themselves along the concrete making their remains scattered. Angel cringed at the sight and up turned her nose at the smell that was even worse. She then looked to her left to her friend's house, who's name is Mikayla. Angel saw the front door open with an arm, laying on the floor.
Angel took a deep breath, but then realized her mistake and gagged on the air. Quickly putting her elbow to her face, she turned towards Tonya and asked for her machete. Tonya complied and went to go get the machete. Angel then told Tonya to stay in the house while she went over to check on Mikayla.
"But why can't I go with you?"
"Because I said so 'lil girl. Now stay in this house 'y'all I come back."
At this the younger sister huffed and crossed her arms, storming to the back of the house.
"Whatever...," Angel said under her breath and then proceeded to walk out of the house, making sure to lock the door behind her.
