The dreaded day had arrived and Tony and Steve were about to be shipped off to somewhere in the Middle East. Peter couldn't believe his dads were actually leaving him. "W-what if I never s-see you again?"

"Peter, don't say that. We promise you we'll be back in a few months. You're gonna have a good time with May, okay?" Peter hugged his dads tight, staining their shirts with tears. "I love you."

"We love you more than anything." The couple was being torn apart inside. Walking away from their son was the hardest thing they had ever done. It's for the best, they had to keep reminding themselves. It's for the best.

Peter watched as his dads walked away, not knowing if he'd ever see them again. It was a sight that he'd never forget, something that would be engraved into his brain forever.

...

Steve and Tony were in the car on the way to the base. "Do you think he's gonna be okay?" Steve couldn't get his mind off of Peter. "I don't know. I mean he's a strong kid, I know that. But I just don't know."
The guilt was striking Steve, hard. Tony noticed the tears streaming down his face. "Steve, are you alright?"

"Tony, this is all my fault. We shouldn't be leaving him. I'm an awful father."

"No, no Steve don't say that. You just wanted to protect him. I want to protect him too. It's all gonna be okay, don't worry. We will see him again. Very soon, I promise you that."

Steve still wasn't sure they were making the right decision. But there was no turning back now.
