The family slowly emerged from the underground bunker, carefully observing for any signs of danger. When the coast was clear, they made their way back to the house. They didn't want to worry Peter, so they put him in his room and told him to play with his toys.

The couple turned out the news, and listened carefully. "Men and women, of all ages, please enlist today. Your country needs your help." The thought crossed through Steve's mind. He looked to Tony.

"No, no." Tony said, reading Steve's mind.

"Tony, if we really want to protect our son, we have to end this war. We have to fight this fight. And you know they're gonna draft us anyway." Tony began to cry, avoiding eye contact with Steve. "We can't leave him, Steve." Tony's heart dropped into his stomach, thinking about leaving their little boy behind.

"We'll find someone to look after him. Um, how about May Parker? I trust her."

"Steve, do you hear what you're saying? You're talking about going to war and leaving our ten year old son behind. We might never see him again! We...we could die!" Suddenly, Steve and Tony heard little whimpers behind the couch. Peter was standing there, sobbing into his hands. "Y-you're gonna l-leave me?"

Steve ran behind the couch and scooped him up into his arms. "Pete, it's okay. It's okay. Daddy and I just want to protect you, that's all." He didn't expect the ten year old to understand, but he tried his best to explain.

"Peter, we love you more than anything, and we would do anything to protect you, you understand?"

Tony couldn't even look at his son. He couldn't bare the thought of leaving him. But he knew what had to be done.
