I walked into homeroom behind Gem and Corrie and was greeted by stares. Some were curious looks while others were unreadable. The classroom was huge and was painted light blue with juicy-hued plastic chairs.

I sat in a chair towards the middle of the room as Gem and Corrie sat on either side of me.  Gem began texting on her phone and I nudge her.

“Hey are cell phones allowed?” I asked even though the teacher wasn’t in the room yet.

“During homeroom, between classes and lunch,” she answered not looking up from her phone. 

This was nothing like my old school. If you were caught with any electronics on school grounds you’d get a detention and parents had to pick up your phone. They even go through your phone with your parents. 

I slowly took my phone out of my pocket and began to search random things on the internet to pass time. There were two girls to the right of me that whispered to each other every time they saw me peek up at them. Corrie was listening to her iPod and her music was so loud that I could hear every word clearly, so I couldn’t ask her what the whispers were about. I decided not to ask Gem either because I knew she was really involved in her phone.

I looked up again from my phone and saw two guys staring at me. They grinned at me and turned around. 

I began to play on my phone some more until I noticed a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to meet a smiling Zane. He seemed to be in a much better mood so I returned him a smile.

“You again,” He said.

“Hey stop stalking me,” I said pretending to be annoyed.

“Me?” he said faking shock. “I would never.”

“How else would you explain why I keep running into you?” I asked.

“Fate...” I said slowly.

“I don’t think so,” I said shaking my head.

He let out that familiar chuckle again and I smiled. I decided to ask him why he was so vile towards his brother in the hall. I knew Samuel wouldn’t tell me because he already refused to explain to me why his eyes change colors. Well not refuse; he just never brought it up and I was too afraid to ask.

“Alright students,” said a voice I surely recognized. “It’s time for attendance.”

I turned around to meet Dean Cade sitting on the desk scanning the room.  I forgot how gorgeous he looked and all I could do was stare. Stare at his deep grey eyes and moist lips that looked inviting.  His hair began to glitter the sunlight that suddenly appeared through the window. I wanted so badly to stroke my fingers through his hair. I was so distracted that I almost missed him calling my name.
