It has been already a week ever since Apollo had come into Marco's home and completely changed his life as soon as he accepted that offer. It felt as if he was making a deal with the devil himself. To gain what he had always longed for, to start a new life. But at what cost?

To leave his loved ones behind...

If the Lieutenant had never mentioned that he would still maintain slight contact through periodical phone calls, meaning that the boy would be separated from his parents for years without contact, then he would have outright refused no matter how tempting it was to him. His parents are the only things that he'd never trade for the world.

What is the use of  wealth if it lacks a man who can't care for it same as he could not care for those who had loved him without a price?

Before the old man had left them, he had asked them to sign 'legal' papers to ensure that their child would be in safe hands. And with that he thanked the family for their time, and left without another word.

And today is the day, that he'll leave. Today is the day, for Marco to know what he really is worth. And today is the day, where he is finally set free from the cage he had been imprisoned for so long. But even before that, he had spent all time he had left with his parents, and bonded together for the whole week. Something they had not done for a long time, as Marco had been so distant. They did everything a family was supposed to do to prove that they cared for one another, and that they'd be here for each other. But nothing could ever prepare a child at such a young age to part with his parents for such a long time. No games, food, money, or fame could ever amount to the pain of having to leave something you hold dear behind. But they all knew...

It was for the best...

Apollo had told him to bring nothing but his mind and body, as everything else would be provided for him within the campus. Something to be expected of a "highly prestigious" school. But lucky of him, that they did not have to pay for any expenses that Marco would need in the long run. That little "show" that the boy had put up a week ago had been enough for the officer to consider that stunt as a prerequisite for a scholarship at a military school, a luxurious one at that too.

And finally after having one last breakfast to enjoy together with his parents, was interrupted by the bus that was scheduled to pick him up at their residence. And that one sound, was all it took to change the mood that had once been joyous for the group. And knowing that his departure was inevitable, it finally led to a tearful goodbye.

They walked up to the door, only for an officer wearing a grey camo uniform to greet them a good morning, and behind him was the bus that would lead Marco to his future.

"Good Morning, Mr. and Mrs. Diaz." the man greeted with a positive mood, something that they didn't expect of a tall and intimidatingly looking man. But considering that he had served in the military himself, he was actually sympathetic to the family.

"Good Morning officer" Mrs. Diaz greeted back with a bittersweet smile. With her hand on her son's shoulder with her husband right beside her. The officer had replied with a nod.

"So you ready to go?" the man asked.

Marco looked at his parents one last time, took a deep breath, and said...

"As ready as i'll every be" Marco said with a look of determination on his face. Not wanting to let his parents down with this huge sacrifice. "But can you please, spare us some time? I just want to say goodbye to Mom and Dad, one last time" he said with a few tears falling down his cheeks. Same could be said for the parents.

The office took of his cap and said, "Sure, as long as you need kid" he replied with a small smile. And considering the number of other children in the bus, he had probably done this multiple times. And he knew that this kind of moment was important, as nobody can handle being separated from their loved ones. Not even the most battle-hardened soldiers could handle losing a loved one, even if its not forever.
