"Pii, why are we here? Did someone get found here?" Kongpob asks.
"Toota did." I answer and he gives me a sad look.
"I don't understand." He says.
"At first we thought of these as individual murders, then they were connected by the method they were killed. They were further connected when you discovered they were set up like that graphic novel from college. More and more things connected these murders to us and our friends including the people that are getting killed. We omitted Toota from the scenario because he died three years ago but the murderer never put in a proxy for him. What if he was the first victim?" I explain.
"But he was killed in a hate crime. It was random right?" He asks.
"I've been thinking, what if it was set up. Sure we got the killer but what if he was told or led to Toota?" I say.
"There's no way for us to ever find that out." He says looking frustrated.
"That's where you're wrong my dear husband." I say as I pull out my phone and make a phone call.
"Want chicken!" Is spoken in a shrill voice, very loudly over the line by an elderly female.
Kong looks at me with a huge smile. It does sound funny considering she practically screeches their tagline. Just as quickly confusion flicks across his face as he wonders how calling a chicken place will help us.
"Yes Auntie, I need to place an order for Toota Khamchoo." I say then wait.
"Who is this?" A male voice asks.
"Uncle, this is Arthit Rojnapat."
"I know you. What do you want?"
"I'm investigating murders that seemed to be focused on us. I don't think Toota was random, I think he was targeted. Can you find out?" I ask then the line goes dead.
"All we can do is wait." I say looking at Kongpob, P'Dan, and K.O.
"In the meantime I want to see if there is a bleeding heart painted anywhere around here." I say walking around.
We split up, well as much as Kongpob will allow. I have to be in his line of sight at all times. I can understand, it makes me feel less nervous to be able to see him too. Not because I'm afraid for me of course, I can kick some ass, but I worry about losing him again. My heart would not be able to handle another loss.
"Here." K.O. calls out.
We meet him in the alleyway and there pained on the club is a sprig of bleeding hearts. It's well worn by the weather but still there.
"DAMMIT!" I yell slamming my fist into the brick wall.
"This person has been targeting us for three years?! Then why the proxies? What kind of game are they playing?!" I scream in frustration.
"Pii!" Kongpob yells as he grabs my hand and inspects it.
"Please Kongpob, I've been hurt much worse than this." I scold pulling my hand away.
I soon realize my mistake when his face morphs into anger. I place my hand back into his thinking that maybe he would forget about what I just said. His expression tells me that he's now cataloging all of the things he's been told and debating his next move. When we were dating he was slightly possessive and overbearing but at the time I could tell him to stop overreacting. Now we're married and his fears are justifiable.
"P'Arthit, when we get home, I want you to write your resignation later to be dated for the completion of this investigation. Then tomorrow you and I will go to the station and you will turn it in." He say trying his best to remain calm.
