Chapter 4

"Yes? What is it Tanner?", I asked concerned.

Tanner bit his top lip and stood up and said, "Let's go for a walk and we can talk about it."

So Tanner and I left our shoes in the limo and told the driver that we would call him when we would get back. So we went to walk right next to the ocean. Tanner was looking down for the first five minutes and than he grabbed my hand and stopped and sat down in the sand and had me sit next to him.

"What's wrong babe?", I asked him.

"I have to tell you something really important.", Tanner said to me.

"Okay..? What is it?", I asked.

"Remember when I went to the doctor for my yearly checkup?", Tanner said.

"Yeah?", I said.

"Well, you also know how I was having pain in my chest?", Tanner said, while I just stared at him as he continued, "Well the doctors did a test to see if I had cancer."

I could not believe my ears! "And!?", I asked.

"And I have leukemia.", Tanner said tears in his eyes.

I was on the verge of tears! "But they can cure it right?!", I asked.

"I-I'm not sure but they are going

t-to try to f-find one.", Tanner said crying.

"They'll find one! I know it!", I said crying.

"I hope your right.", Tanner said still crying.

"And.......if they don't.....how long do you have..?", I asked scared to know the answer.

"I-I think I would have about three to four months.", Tanner said, "But I would have to make sure with my doctors."

"Well, I am going to spend every last second it can have with you.", I said still having tears running down my face.

We sat there silent for a while just leaning up against each other. This silence was the sad but calming silence.

By the time we finally got up it was 9:30. So we headed back to the limo our hands intertwined and than headed back into town.

Once we got to my house I asked Tanner if he wanted to stay over at my house and he said he was going to go home and rest and talk with his parents a little more about the cancer but that he would see if he could tomorrow.

"Goodnight Em.", Tanner said giving me a kiss on my front step.

"Goodnight Tanner.", I said back hugging him for a long time and than giving him a kiss on the cheek,"Text me when you get home okay?"

"Okay. I will. Goodnight.", Tanner said.

"Night.", I said back and headed inside. Once I was inside I looked out the window to see Tanner drive away in the limo, and than broke down in tears and ran upstairs.

I sat up in my room in my pj's crying for about fifteen minutes, and than my mom came upstairs with a very worried look on her face.

"What's wrong Em? What happened?", she asked with a look of sympathy.

"Tanner told me that he has leukemia. And that they might not have a cure for it.", I said still crying.

"Oh baby.", my mom said giving me a hug, "I am so sorry."

I just sat there crying for a few minutes with my mom hugging me and than Tanner called me and my mom left the room.

"Hey Em.", Tanner said.

"Hey, how are you?", I asked.

"Okay. I just talked to my parents and they told me that the doctors said that I would have a little less than a year to live if they don't find a cure.", Tanner said sounding like he had been crying.

"Tanner, gosh how did this happen!? And why to you!?", I yelled into the phone not caring that it was 10 at night.

"I don't know Em. I wish I knew as much as you do.", Tanner answered.

I was crying now. "Well, can you at least come over tomorrow and stay over?", I asked.

"Yeah, I'll be able to. My mom said that I can spend a lot of time with you but that I am also going to spend time with my family.", Tanner said back.

"Okay. I miss you. I wish I was with you right now.", I said quietly.

"I know I miss you too.", Tanner said quietly back.

"Emma, you should sleep baby.", my mom said opening the door a little bit.

"Okay.", I told my mom, "I have to go Tanner. I'll text you tomorrow. I love you.", I said to Tanner.

"Goodnight Em. I love you too.", Tanner said back.

"G'night.", I said and than hung up the phone, and drifted right off to sleep.
