Chapter 16

I slept though the night without a call. So I got a pretty good night sleep. Though when I woke up I had a text from Tanner.

"Treatment one done. It's so weird how they do the treatment here. I can't even explain it it's so weird. I have another round this afternoon, than I get a break tomorrow and I will be allowed visitors so...I was thinking maybe you would come down and see me. I miss you already. :(.", Tanner said.

I texted him back quickly, "Yes! I will come to visit. I miss you too."

I headed downstairs to talk to my mom and dad about the trip. I looked at my phone to see what time it was and saw it was already 11:30. Wow I got a lot of sleep.

"Morning. Well more like good afternoon.", my dad said as I headed into the kitchen.

"Morning to you too dad.", I said and than went to get some coffee from the pot.

"How did you sleep? Did Tanner call you?", my mom asked.

"He texted me and asked me to go down there with him to visit.", I said.

"Oh? Well should we all go than?", my dad asked.

"I don't know it's up to you guys.", I said.

"Well than yes. I want to be there for you incase of anything.", my mom said.

"Okay.", I said smiling a little.

We headed out after lunch I made sure to pack enough clothing to stay for a few days.

It took us about three hours to drive to the hospital he was at.

"Want us to come pick you up later?", My dad asked as we pulled up to the hospital.

"You're not coming?", I asked.

"Your mother and I want to go to the hotel and get settle. Text us when you need us to pick you up okay?", My dad said.

"Okay.", I said and hopped out of the car.

I walked through the big glass doors of the hospital and walked up to the front desk.

"Can I help you?", The lady at the desk asked with a smile.

"Yeah can I have the room number of where Tanner Davenport's room is?", I asked.

"Yes hold on one second.", she answered.

"Okay.", I said and waited patiently. I took in my surroundings. I saw a big chandelier hanging in the front foyer and a nice staircase to go upstairs. I think the building must have been at least 50 years old.

"His room is number 367.", the lady said.

"Thanks!", I said back, "Oh um is there an elevator?"

"Oh yes just around the corner here.", the lady said pointing around the corner.

"Okay thanks.", I said.

"Yup!", the lady said.

I walked around the corner and headed over to the elevator. I clicked the button to go up.

As the door opened a lady with a food cart came out. I just smiled politely and than got into the elevator. I pressed the number 3. As I started going up I started thinking about how Tanner was and how happy he would be to see me. It was about 3:30 in the afternoon and I had told him I was going to come visit but I didn't exactly say when so it would kind of be a surprise for him.

I walked out of the elevator and found Tanners mom sitting in the waiting room. She seemed like she had been crying.

"Mrs.Davenport?", I said nervous that something had happened to Tanner.

" *gasp* Emma!", she said as she saw me and ran and have me a hug.

"Mrs.D what's going on?", I asked.

She sighed and than said, "Tanner is in his second treatment and it will be done soon. I was just worried that I guess I broke. I am just so worried that he won't make it."

"I know how that feels. When will he be done?? Can I see him?", I asked.

"Yes you can see him I have you on the 'family' list. And he will be done very soon.", Mrs.D said.

I sat there with Mrs.D for about 10 minutes and than the doctor came in and told us that we could see Tanner now.

Mrs.D and I walked down the hall and entered Tanner's room.

"Tanner. You have a visitor.", Mrs.D said.

"Oh? Who?", Tanner said as I walked in, "EM!" Tanner's face was full of shock.

I walked over to him and gave him a very big hug.

"When did you get here?", Tanner asked.

"Oh like 10 minutes ago.", I said.

"Well I'm glad you're here.", Tanner said smiling.

I stayed with Tanner for about two hours and we talked about the trip here, and how my parents are here also. I explained to him how I was going to stay with them tonight but that I would be back tomorrow. He smiled at that. He kept telling me that he loves me and that in case of anything bad happening he wanted me to know how much I loved him. I told him I loved him too.

"Well I should probably call my mom.", I said. I was already 6 and I knew my mom and dad wanted to go out to eat with me.

"Awe...okay well I'll text you tomorrow morning.", Tanner said smiling.

I stood up from the chair I had been sitting in and leaned down and kissed him, "I love you.", I said.

"I love you too.", Tanner said and gave me a kiss back.

"Talk later.", I said as I headed out of the room.

"Yup! I'll text you!", Tanner said.

"Okay.", I said and than left. But it didn't know that that would be the last time I would see him alive.
