Chapter Eight

There was a huge commotion coming from Rambo’s hospital room. I tapped on the door and entered. He was sitting on the bed pouting while Dad and two nurses trying to placate him.

“Hey Rambo?” I handed him the bunch of tulips I bought from the flower shop next to the hospital. He hugged them to his chest but continued to pout. I looked at dad.

“He wants his ring.” Dad sighed. I raised my eyebrows. “The one you gave?” He explained. The couple ring. “Somehow during his hospitalization it was misplaced. He’s looking for it now.” The old guy rubbed his face. He must be exhausted from work and now with his son’s tantrums.

“Dad? Go home and take a rest.” I squeezed his shoulder. “I’ll take care of him.” He gave one last look at the stubborn boy in bed and left the room followed by terrorized two poor nurses.

When the door slid shut I sat on the bed and draped my arm around his thin fragile shoulders. He's far too thin still but his energy and usual color has returned.

“Bo?” he didn’t reply. He just continued to stare away at the far away sky visible from the large window. The doctor’s have warned us that he might experience constant mood swings and sometimes depression. So we have to keep an eye on him at all times.

“Bo?” This time I whispered to he his ear and pressed a kiss to his cheek. That got his mood changed.

“Pree, the ring. They misplaced my ring.” His lower lip trembled. “I never took it off.” He sniffed rubbing his nose. “Even when it got too big for my finger, I never took it off.” I stroked his back soothingly.

“The ring didn’t get big Bo, your fingers became thin.” I got hold of his hands and observed his fingers. “You have beautiful hands, remember Bo? You took care of them very well.” I touched his hand to my cheek.

“Why did you stop caring for yourself?” I pressed my nose to his palm.

He leaned his head on my shoulder and closed his eyes.

“I stopped caring for myself, when I lost you Pree.” He mumbled. “I wish they didn’t loose my ring. It has so many memories in it.” He continued to crooned. “Even if you took it off, I never did.” He sniffed.
I lifted his head from my shoulder and stared into his eyes.

“I never took it off.” I touched his chin. His eyes snapped to my empty hands. I shook my head. His eyes followed my movements when I snapped two buttons on my shirts. Holding his eyes I held his hand and directed it inside my shirt and on to my sternum. His eyes widened when his fingers contacted with the ring dangling from a thin chain. He parted my shirt and stared at the rings we exchanged on that one unforgettable morning.

He touched the ring with his finger tips and looked up my face.

“I thought you threw it away.” He whispered.

“I tried. I was so hurt and angry, I tried to loose it. But I couldn’t. I couldn’t do it.” Rambo slowly leaned forward and pressed his face to my exposed sternum. His warm breath brushed my skin intimately. I burryed my face in his hair and inhaled his familiar scent.

“Your ring will turn up eventually. So stop worrying.” I combed his hair with my fingers when he straightened up. Then he carefully buttoned up my shirt, hiding the ring from the world. “If not, we’ll buy new couple rings.” He smiled his cute adorable eye crinkling smile at my words.

“Are you ready to have your dinner.” I stood up brushing my palms together.

“What did you cook today?” He asked eagerly. He’s developed a craving for my cooking.

“Garlic Pork.” I opened the container and placed it on the food table. He can eat by himself now but I like to feed him and he loves it when I do that. He had been away like that. I baby him too much.

“Pree tell me about your work.” He chewed slowly.

“Well, we have been developing this new game for few months now. I think it’s ready to launch in few weeks.” I did tell him that I might have to go back to States then.

“I remember how obsessed with video games you were in University.” He smiled. “Who would have thought you’d be  creating games for a living.” He licked a bit of gravy off his bottom lip.

“Well I only develop the concept. I have technical and creative team for rest of the work.” He crinkled his eyes in joy.

“From flight attendant to a game master.” He muttered.

“I became a flight attendant because of you. I would have followed you to the end of the Earth back then.” His face fell.

“Yet I betrayed you.” He started tracing patterns in his PJs.

“Let’s forget about the past. Let’s start anew.” I placed the food container aside and moved the food table away from him. “Promise me that you will forget your unpleasant experiences. Forgot all the sadness and start a brand new life.” I held his both hands in mine.

“Let’s make new memories together. Because this time I won’t let you go. I will be there for you no matter what.” His eyes are shining with tears.

“Pree, I love you so much. I loved you the very first moment you walked into that lecture hall. And I will continue to love you till I die.” He said earnestly. “Please be patient with me.” He pleaded. “I tend to mess up easily. Because without you I’m half dead. Be with me Pree.”

He leaned closer and pressed his cheek to my heart. I started stroking his hair.

“Pree won't leave you again.”
