When Reena and I go back downstairs, I sit next to Sheldon and take Claire from him. She has truly grown in the last four months, with her curly hair becoming more pronounced, as well as her eyes. She has my eyes, while everything else is the exact same as Reena's. As I look at her, her attention turns to me and with outstretched arms, she begins to play in my hair.
"The girls always go for the hair huh?" Sheldon says and I turn to him and give him a cheeky smile.
"You've gone for the hair as well, let's not forget." I reply and he smiles and runs his hand in my head.
"I guess some things never change." He finishes and I laugh.
Reena finally comes over to us and I hand Claire over to her, they both stare at each other before she sits between me and Sheldon.
"I can't believe how much she's grown." She makes her stand as she examines her, then Claire begins to get fussy and she makes her sit on her legs.
"I missed you." She plants a kiss on her forehead, and Claire claps.
Reena beams and I kiss her. "She has your eyes." Reena says, and I nod, "Yeah, but she has everything else for you."
"I know she'll have some of your traits so we can't say that yet, although I am hoping she doesn't have your stubbornness."
I give her a side look, "You mean your stubbornness?"
She rolls her eyes and ignores me. "She definitely has your eyes though."
"She's gonna break a lot of hearts with those eyes one day." Sheldon is standing, looking at me with a mocking stare.
I narrow my eyes at him, "It won't be any time soon."
Sheldon grins. "Is that an overprotective dad I smell?"
Reena laughs, "Did you expect any less Sheldon?"
I raise a brow at her and she shrugs her shoulders, "Do you blame me?"
"No, of course not. I wouldn't expect any less, in fact, I was waiting for either one of you to bring it up."
She starts bouncing Claire in her lap and her starts clapping, "You're gonna have an overprotective Dad and Godfather, but don't worry I'll be your voice if reasoning."
"Don't forget an overprotective grandfather." My dad says from behind us and I laugh, kissing Claire on the cheek in the process. "Sorry Cee, three against one, there will be no voice of reasoning."
I kiss Reena on the forehead and get up from the couch, making my way over to my mom. "Nothing to say?"
She looks around at me and laughs, "Nothing at all, I won't get involved unless I must."
She turns back around and my dad steps beside me, a glass of water in hand. "Are you okay love?"
She gives him a mischievous smile, and I smile and move away when I hear the screech of tires and the dying of an engine. When I hear a door shut, I move to the window and look outside just in time as Lucas and Sheldon come running through the door.
"I already hate the cold and it's not even been a day yet," she says to Lucas before running in my arms.
She opens her mouth to say something before Claire giggles and she runs off to the kitchen. Lucas sighs and drops the suitcases onto the floor before giving me a hug. "Well, how are the whole father and school thing?"
I give him a long hard look before smiling, "What, are you thinking about joining the team?"
His eyes widen and a horrified look sweeps across his face, I grin and he punches me.
"Not funny!" He exclaims, and I laugh.
A month ago, he and his girl had a pregnancy scare and I've used every opportunity to remind him of how close he was to be in my shoe. It always creeps him out.
"Props to you man, I don't know how you do it because I know I'd be going crazy."
"I love being a Dad."
He nods as there's a knock on the door when I open it it's Reena's uncle. He had recently left to work in another hospital, so it was a surprise seeing him here.
"Hey, Dr Wallace."
He nods, but his eyes seem unfocused and his eyes seem tired, "Can you tell Reena I'm here? Please."
"Sure. Come in."
He nods and whispers a thank you and I walk to the kitchen where I find Summer and Reena with Claire and Sheldon talking to my dad, while mom cooks.
"Babe, your uncle is here to see you."
"Oh yeah." She says getting up with Claire, "He wanted to see me." She lifts Claire in the air and beams at her, "Or maybe it's you that he wanted to see."
Claire giggles and she walks pass me to where he is.
"Hi uncle, this is Claire."
She hands her to him and he takes her as gently as ever as if she might break. Claire fusses for a bit and Reena steps closer and she calms down a bit.
"She's gorgeous Reena, just like you."
Reena smiles, "She has Reeds' eyes."
He looks up at me, then down and nods, "She does indeed."
Claire starts to get fussy once more and she stretches out her hands for her mom, and Reena takes her. As she holds her, Dr Wallace watches them, and I see when his hands tighten into fists and he bites his lips, it's obvious he's angry about something and is trying to contain his emotions. Reena notices this too and puts her hand on his shoulder,
"Is something wrong?" She asks and not only does her voice sound concerned but it is also on her face.
I move next to her and take Claire.
"I wanted to tell you face to face, because I couldn't do it over the phone. I never wanted to leave because something told me something like this would happen."
"Something like what?" I can hear the panic in her voice.
He sighs, "Samual got released on bond a few days ago. I didn't know, because if I had known, I would've been here."
Reena starts shaking her head, and she releases a deep breath.
"Please, just tell me."
He runs his hand down his face and I can see tears, "Samual killed your mom last night."
Reena stares at him blankly as tear slips down his face and he sputters, "I'm so sorry Reena."
At those words, everything seems to sink in, and Reena collapses to the floor.
