Even though we had planned for the wedding to be in Spring, after a few setbacks we moved it to Reed's second favourite season, Fall. Also, I didn't want to have a summer or winter wedding so it was both our choice really.
It's just a couple hours away and Reed's mom has been panicking. I know she wants everything to be perfect and even though I can understand, it's really starting to wear on my nerves and I can definitely feel the panic starting to set in.
I'll officially be married to Reed years after he proposed and us having our daughter and graduating from college and getting good jobs. And even though that's what I planned for and I wanted it to be sooner, I still appreciate where everything is. Now, I just want to focus on us being good parents to our child and creating a good and stable family life.
"Still nervous?" Reed's mom comes over and sits beside me on the bed. I'm in my silk underwear and bra, my makeup is already done and my hair has been flat-ironed and swept back.
"I'm ready to be married to Reed, there is nothing I'm more certain of right now than that. I love your son more than anything, him and Claire. I just - this is a big thing for me. Being in a relationship was even a big deal and now we're getting married and I'm just at a lost for words."
"Reed loves you. He loved you then and he loves you now and that's never going to change."
She comes closer to me and hugs my shoulder. "As a woman, I know how you might be worried about that because we all know that the one thing that in life that is inevitable is change."
I nod, "Yeah, change and death." I giggle and she chuckles too then her face grows serious.
"Is this also about your mom?" she asks, and my chest tightens.
I look at her and when my eyes grow wet, she pulls me into her arms. "I know you'd love it if she was here Reena and for that I'm sorry."
She lets me go and gives me a handkerchief to wipe at my eyes. "Yeah, thanks."
Mrs Max smiles and winks at me, "Now cheer up and go make my son the happiest man in the world." She gets up and goes to remove the wedding dress from the bag.
The air in my lungs gets caught when she stands with it in front of me. "You're going to look so gorgeous I know Reed is going to cry."
I laugh a little, "I hope he does."
"I wager $300 that my husband is going to cry too." I laugh out but she looks at me dead serious and so I nod.
"Now let's get you ready."
