Five days after Reena gave birth, we are finally given the go-ahead to go home. I, for one, am excited while at the same time on the edge. I'm finally going home with my daughter and the girl of my dreams.

The moment I drive into the yard, my mom opens the door and is already moving towards us. I turn around to make sure Reena and Claire are okay, and not at all surprising to me, Reena is fast asleep, and so is Claire. My mom comes and takes the baby, I tell her to go and give me a second with Reena. She leaves and I move around to the back to be next to her, Reena doesn't even budge and it isn't until almost twenty minutes later that she wakes up.

"Where's Claire?" she asks groggily, looking around the car.

"She's with my mom."

"Oh," she says and relaxes into my arms. We stay silent for a good minute until she gives me a small smile and bites her lip, "You're a father."

I smile, "Yes, I'm a father. And you are a mother."

She nods, smiling again. "We're parents."

I kiss her, "We are finally parents."

"Think we're ready?" she asks and I can see the worry in her eyes.

"Is anyone ever ready? My parents told me they never were, even with me and I was number two, so you can imagine."

She laughs. "You are right. I guess we'll just have to try our best."

I nod, "That's all we can do really."

She straightens, and we alight from the car. I help her up and into the house where we are greeted by Sheldon, who is holding Claire as if she might break.

"This is a sight for sore eyes." I saw and he looks up and gives me a grin and whispers. "Well, seeing as I am her godfather, I couldn't miss out on her first day being home."

Reena smiles and I move with her to the couch, where she sits and Sheldon hands her the baby. She takes her and holds her in her arms, and she just stares at her. Reena runs her hands through her hair and down her face, marking her features. She finally lifts her head, "There's more of you in her than there is me."

Sheldon laughs, and I elbow him in his side and it turns into a fit of coughs.

"Imagine, I carried her for nine months and she took after you."

I move closer to look at her, but all I see is Reena, "I think you need glasses because all I'm seeing is you."

She shakes her head no, "She only has my mouth."

Before I can even say anything, my mom comes into the living room, "She looks like me."

We all look up at her and start laughing.

"Good," she says, "Now that's been resolved, Reed you take the baby while I take Reena upstairs to help her freshen up."

Reena sighs and whispers a thank you. I pull her up from the couch and she and my mom head up to my room.

"She seems to be doing okay," Sheldon says sitting.

I nod, "She is."

Sheldon doesn't say anything after that and when I look at him, he's staring at me rather intensely. "What?"

"How are you doing?"

I give him a confused stare and he leans forward, "Reed, I know what happened."

When he says that I don't move or say anything about what must be a long time because next thing I know is Sheldon is standing beside me, hand on my shoulder.

"Reed." he gives me a worrying look and I smile to make him relax.

I sit with Claire, and he sits too, with his eyes still trained on me. "I almost lost her," I say and the words sound so foreign, I barely recognize my voice, the handful of emotions all tied together. "One minute I was looking at Claire, the next minute Reena isn't moving."

I shiver and I start stroking Claire's hair, "They sent me out." I say nothing for a long time, "I thought I'd lost her. I actually did."

Sheldon grabs my shoulder and gives me a little smile, "But you didn't, she's here."

Reed nods, "I know, but honestly, that's something I never want to experience. Ever. I felt so helpless, and it nearly drove me out of my mind."

"Do you think she'll be okay?" he asks, and I look at him.

"If this is how you feel, can you imagine what she's feeling."

I turn my attention back to Claire.

"I'm going to have to talk to her about it."

Sheldon nods, "You should." then he starts grinning again and looks at Claire, "Now, can I have my goddaughter?"

I shake my head and gently place her in his arms.

For the next minutes, I'm lost in the events that have brought me a load of feelings. Some, the best I've experienced while others have been the worst, but ultimately, I have my daughter and Reena and ultimately that's all that matters.
