Its been a hot minutes... Sorry

“You made it!” Dalton yelled as he opened the front door to his moms house.

“Of course I made it! Where else would I go?”

“I dunno,”

“Skylen you made it!” Kiva engulfed me in a huge hug.

“Wouldn’t miss it for the world!”

“Dalton will show you to the guest room.”

“Mom, she stay in my room.” Dalton told her as he grabbed my backpack.

“So you’re going to sleep in the guest room?” she said sassily, I now know where he gets it from “Mom,”

“Dalt, she’s a minor. No offence honey.”

“None taken. Dalton, show me the guest room.” he tried to fight back but gave up.

I couldn’t sleep. I just stared at the ceiling. I looked at the alarm clock next to me, the bright numbers telling me it’s three in the morning. “Great” I said to myself. I decided I was thirsty and started making my way down stairs. I walked by dalton’s room and saw his door was open and a blue light was shining through.

He was laying on his bed with his laptop on his lap. I ditched the water idea and crawled in bed with dalton.

“Watcha doin?” I asked i got under the covers.

“Finalising a few things.” he typed something then closed his laptop and put it on his side table. “What are you doing?” he asked me after kissing the top of my head. I put my head on his chest and shrugged. “Laying with you i guess.” he shifted down and wrapped his arms around me.

“I meant why are you awake?”

“I couldn’t sleep. I went to go get water but saw you and came in here instead.”

“Do you still want water?” i nodded into his chest. He leaned over and handed me a water bottle. I took a sip and gave it back to him. I yawned and he chuckled a bit.

“Not tired huh?” he asked with a pinch of salt in his voice.

“No, very much tired. Couldn’t sleep. There’s a difference.”

“Right right, my bad.” we laid there in silence for a few minutes until he broke it.

“Hey Skylen?”

“Mm?”

“What happened when you were 10?”

“What do you mean? A lot of things happened when I was 10.”

“You said you had to become a miniature adult.”

“Oh, right.”

“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”

“No no it’s fine. My mom had a miscarriage, the baby was 6 months old. She didn’t handle it very well. She found out christmas eve. So christmas was spent with my siblings because my parents were in the hospital. Alex was 17 or 18 so it wasn't like we were adultless. But after that we all decided to help out a bit more. As much as we could. So Alex and Jaden got jobs. The twins cooked more often. And I started cleaning at my dance studio in exchange for my dance lessons. And Jack helped out a bit too. The year after my parents went on a cruise and then they just continued that I guess.”

“I'm so so-”

“Don't be. It was in the past. 7 years ago.” I yawned again and buried my face deeper into his shirt.

“Get some sleep kid” he whispered in my ear. I nodded and was out almost instantly.

I woke up to the sound of Sophie.

“Y'all better be glad I found you and not mom” she said from the doorway of Daltons room.

“Sophie go away! We didn't do anything!” Dalton yelled at her tiredly and threw a pillow.

“I'm just saying.” she left and I laughed.

I sat next to Dalton on the floor as everyone opened presents. I was smiling watching them than Dalton gave me a box.

I gave him a confused look.

“It's a Christmas present. Open it.” He told me.

“Dalt you didn't have to-”

“It's from all of us.” I smiled and kissed his cheek.

I opened the box, it was black ukulele. It was beautiful. Not like black plastic but wood stained black.

“It's beautiful thank you!”

Time skip cuz I'm lazy

Dalton decided to take me on a last minute Christmas date like the little sap he is.

We went to the park not too far from his parents house. The whole park was lit with Christmas light. It was beautiful.

At one point I got cold and Dalton gave me his jacket. I felt something in the inside pocket.

“Dalt what's this?” I asked pulling out two pieces of paper.

“That my love. Is your Christmas present.” he said with the biggest grin. I looked down.

“You didn't!”

“Yep! Two pit tickets and meet and greet for the one and only blue October!”

“Oh my gosh Dalton!” I hugged him so tight. “This is amazing thank you!”

“Anything for you. Also I promised you you would meet Justin.” I pecked his lips and thanked him again.

“Oh I forgot!” I took off my small backpack and dug inside.

“I forgot to give this to you.” I handed him the gift that was only covered by a plastic bag. “Sorry for the wrapping…” he smiled and opened it. His jaw dropped when he saw that it was Nobodys Home on vinyl.

“Oh my god Sky this is amazing! How did you get this?”
