I'm sure you've been told this
More times than you care to count
But there's a reason it's repeated
It's because there's truth in the words
"Things will get better"

If you don't believe me
Then let's travel back in time
Not even a year ago
To the darkest time in my life

There, you'll see a girl lying in bed
Pale skin and a thinning face
She's not crying
But in her head all she thinks about
Is dying

Her clothes don't fit her anymore
Her friends wonder why
She never talks to them
Her parents plead for her
To come out of her room

She covers her pain with dark humor
She laughs, but her friends
Are worried that one day
They'll find her dead
On the bathroom floor

She loathed her very existence
She would sleep all day
Hoping that one day
She wouldn't wake up at all
She feared that this
Was all there was to life
And that she was doomed
To never find happiness

That same girl is writing
To all of the people who felt
The same way she did
Telling them that there is hope
That where there is sadness
There is happiness
Where there is darkness
There is light
And if you're looking for a reason
To keep going
This is it

Keep going for the day
When you're surrounded
By the people you love
And when you smile
It's genuine
And you can feel
Your heart smiling too
Because that day isn't too far off
And how tragic it would be
If you missed it
