Sam was past from person to person, some hugging her, others giving her some gifts to take with her to Ninjago.
When she reached the end of the line, Sam looked around for one more person.
Suddenly, the rumble of large jet engines shook the ground underneath Sam's feet. Thunderbird 2 came closer to land in the clearing, causing Sam to gasp of air.
As the big ship landed, a figure dress in a blue jumpsuit and a green harness rushed towards the group.
(Virgil's POV)
He had come as soon as he had heard. He had been out on a rescue when he had gotten the call. Scott had been nice enough to let Virgil leave to go see off Sam.
Virgil opened his arms and Sam leaped into them. As he lifted her up, she kissed him.
For a second, the world stopped spinning. It was just the two of them. He slid his hands lower to her butt and gave it a gentle squeeze. Sam gasped and moaned into his mouth.
A cough behind them had Virgil setting Sam back on her feet.
"Virgil, when you kiss my daughter in front of me, please don't do that. It makes it hard not to try and strangle you," Cole said walking towards the couple.
"Yes sir," Virgil said, moving his hand from its place on Sam's left butt cheek.
"Dad, please stop. I have something to show Virgil and then we can leave," Sam said.
As soon as her dad was far enough away, Sam pulled up her black t-shirt. It once blank middle of her back, Thunderbird 2 was inked in all her glory with Virgil's name and birthday on the side of the ship. Next to it was a purple heart.
"Wow," Virgil said.
"You like?"
"I love it almost as much as I love who its on. And your not the only one with something to show," Virgil said unzipping his jumpsuit. He pull off his harness and lifted up his under shirt, spinning around so Sam could see his back.
(Sam's POV)
The middle of Virgil's back was taken over by a black and purple yin-yang symbol. The black side was inked with some drawings of her. Smiling, laughing, her hair wet, her hair down, her hair up, drawing, baking. All of her. The purple side was left blank, as if waiting for more images to be added.
Her name and birthday wrapped around the circumference of the circle followed by a pattern of hearts.
Sam's voice caught in her throat. She didn't know what to say. It was beautiful.
"I left part of it blank for all the memories we'll make later. I hope its okay," Virgil said pulling down his shirt and rezipping his jumpsuit.
"Wow," Sam said in a whisper.
(Virgil's POV)
The look on Sam's face made the pain he had to put up with to get the tattoo.
He pulled her closer and kissed her, putting every ounce of love and admiration he felt for her into it.
But the kiss had to end.
"Sam, Its time to go, sweetheart," Hope said, interrupting the couple.
"Okay mom."
Virgil felt his mouth pull into a frown. He didn't want Sam to go. He wanted her to be in his arms when ever he woke up, to play the piano side by side, to kiss her sweet lips as she decorated the cakes she baked, to fall asleep next to her.
"Virgil, its only for a year."
"That's kind of a long time, you know," Virgil said putting his arms around her.
"I'll make sure I call you as much as I can. At least once a day, I promise," Sam said, letting her hands slid away from Virgil's.
As Sam stepped through the glowing purple portal, he whispered.
"Come back to me, Samantha."
