James felt like weight had been added on his shoulders. She hadn't said anything. It hadn't gone the way he wanted.
He'd never seen her so emotional. He understood her convictions but he wasn't about to give up. She was still angry but he'd faced more trying and difficult individuals than Jan.
He figured he had come in time. The pills he'd found indicated a destructive nature. She hadn't asked for them and he didn't plan to tell her he'd thrown them in the trash. She sat at the end of her bed, going through her sketch pad.
She flipped through until she found the one she'd drawn of him. She felt like tearing it up.
She threw the sketch pad across the room. Why couldn't he have stayed away? She'd forgotten about him. And yet here he was now, with this idea. It was ridiculous. What would she do in the States?
She needed to clear her head. She changed into a neon green t-shirt and leggings and put on her running shoes.
It was a hot day , but Jan knew it would rain later.James lay down on the couch, bored. He kept replaying the scenario in his head. There were so many things he would have changed if he could go back into the past.
Jan passed on quickly by. She gave no explanation as she left.
He got up, slipped on his shoes and followed her. She'd expected this. He walked a few paces behind her.
He watched her walk. She was going at a steady pace and her butt looked delightful in the leggings.
She waved at persons as she passed. She seemed to know a lot of people for a recluse.
He walked a little closer to her. He probably looked like a pervert, especially from the looks he got from her neighbors.
James considered himself fit; he could bench press twice his weight, do 100 push-ups in one sitting and had the physique to prove it.
Yet he was struggling to keep up with her. He hoped she'd stop soon. She could smell the salty sea air as she trudged on. She breathed in deeply. She'd be sore tomorrow but she was glad to have something hurting besides her heart.
The beach was in sight. There were a few coconut trees and the black sand that was characteristic of the beach, seem to shimmer in the morning light. It wasn't called Black Bay for nothing.
The water was clear and calm and as it usually was, there was no one around. She loved that fact. The sand was hot, there were plenty shells and broken glass that had been smoothed down by the motion of the waves.
It gave the beach an interesting look that Jan appreciated. She pulled off her shoes and used them as a pillow as she lay down in the sand.
It stung briefly because of the heat but she didn't care. It was good to feel some pain. She'd have complained if the circumstances were different.
James found her on the sand. He noted the heat and wondered if she'd gone mad.
He was a little agitated, tired and annoyed. The walk had been a little longer than he'd anticipated.
The beach was deserted, he retreated to the trees. There were a few benches made out of coconut trunks and a few made out of bamboo. He sat down.
She'd had enough of the sand. She got up, pulled off her shirt and leggings and entered the water.
She submerged, she stayed under until she felt her heart beat increase and her body tense up. She re-emerged to find him standing at the waters edge looking worried, then relieved.
She'd completely forgotten about him. She was half naked and this man would see her.
He was glad to see that she was alright. He'd been afraid that she had drown or something.
He was a bottle of nerves. He'd finally seen what those clothes she wore hid. Yes, she'd lost some weight but it didn't detract from the natural beauty of her body.
He didn't mind her scars. They were part of her and he planned to at one point lick every single one.
She trudged out of the water. She plopped unto the sand.
He came and sat next to her. Jan stared at him intensely. She didn't care anymore. He'd seen her scars before.
"Why are you here?"
Her hair had fallen into her face. He pushed it behind her ear and scratched the back of his head.
He lay back in the sand. He didn't plan to answer her question.
She lay down next to him. The water had soothed her and she wasn't as angry as she'd been before.
They lay there for a while, the only sound being that of the wind and the waves.
She got up, suddenly remembering that he'd burn in the sun and she didn't want that. She got up and went into the water to wash off the sand. She put on her clothes.
He got up and dusted off his clothes and hair. "Let's go." She mumbled.
They walked back together side by side in comfortable silence.
