Five years later
Jan frowned. She'd been mad all day. He'd gotten her pregnant again. She was partly to blame.
As insatiable as James Dalton could be, she was the one who failed to say no.
She stared at the pregnancy test in her hand. She felt a tiny hand tug at her shorts.
Desiree Stella Dalton; "Dez" for short held out her hands so that her mother could pick her up.
Jan sighed. She picked her daughter and kissed her cheek. She'd just turned two and she looked more like her father every day.
She taken his disposition too. She was a happy child and Jan was proud to say that she hadn't messed up yet.
"Let's go find your daddy."
"Dada! " Dez screamed and Jan couldn't help but laugh.
She was just happy that she was done with her psychology degree. It had been difficult going to school and being pregnant the first time around. Her life had changed so much. She'd been married to James Sheldon Dalton for three years now, even though she'd initially refused his proposals. He'd proposed to her 6 times before she'd finally said yes.
He'd given her two weddings. One in his California home town and a traditional church wedding in her Saint Lucian home.
There'd been a lot of people at the second wedding and she'd resolved a lot of issues she'd had with family.
He'd allowed her to grow and gotten her the help she needed which had prompted her degree in psychology.
She wanted to help people, the way the psychiatrist had helped her.
He stood in his office looking out the window.
"Dada!" Dez screamed. He turned , his eyes lighting up as she set Dez down so she could run to her father.
Then he stared at her. His eyes as intense as they'd been all those years ago.
She felt the butterflies in her stomach and wondered when that feeling would go away.
He held out his free hand and Jan walked towards him.
He hugged her tight to him and he basked in her scent. Coconut oil; he'd never tire of that scent.
She pushed away from him and took Dez from him. "I'm mad at you." She stated blandly.
"You're pregnant?" He guessed.
Her eyes narrowed.
"How you know that ?"
James laughed, he shook his head and hugged her.
"It's the same expression you had when you told me the first time."
She rolled her eyes and he kissed her cheek. He took Dez from her and swung her around before sending her up into the air. Her daughter giggled and Jan couldn't help but smile.
If only Stella was here to see this. She sighed , feeling nostalgic.
He'd always been good at sorting her moods. He put his daughter down.
"I wish she were here too." He stated before hugging her.
Evin now lived in the house she'd left behind. She'd offered for him to move to the States but her brother had declined.
She'd gotten used to her surroundings and made friends. She still immensely disliked James' mother even though she found his father equally repulsive.
Being called a 'third world gold digging whore' didn't exactly make her like the woman but she tolerated her enough.
The woman's shelter she volunteered at four times a week would have to be given a heads up since she was pregnant again. The fact that she was happy made up for the inconveniences of another pregnancy and she'd be starting a new job soon.
She hugged him again, ignoring Dez's protests.
"I love you Mr Dalton."
"I love you Mrs Dalton."
Jan could only smile at that statement as she wondered what she'd done to deserve such a man. But she thanked God every day that he hadn't given up on her.
As he touched her belly, she wondered how many times she'd be in this situation and she already had plans to tie her tubes if he continued to ravage her the way he usually did.
All in all, she was happy and she figured he was too.
She kissed him once more and basked in the happiness she'd obtained when she'd taken a job she didn't really like and found a drunk man who'd turned her life around.
James smiled at her. He'd gotten his woman and she was pregnant... Again! And he was ever so happy because she was his. He'd do a jig when she was out of sight.
She'd already given him one wonderful child and he knew she'd give him another.
His heart soared. He loved her so much. And he knew that she loved him. And that's all that matters.
