"Lamarque is ill and fading fast... Won't last the week..." the voice of my friend, enjorlras echos in my head.  Just half an hour before, we were rallying the peasants and beggars to support the French Revolution at the barricade

Sat there in the apartment room I was secretly renting (my comrades don't know I'm not poor.  This I admit is an injustice to my close friends, but I cannot stand to see them suffering any  more, so I pretend to be poor, like them so I never seem authoritative, snobbish or intrusive .) I wondered if any of us would survive the barricade.  I knew that the revolution was a disaster waiting to happen but enjorlras was determined to go ahead with it.

"hey there you still pretending to be poor? Come on I know your grandpa's rich. " it was Eponine thenardier. I briefly acknowledged her presence, but otherwise attempted to ignore her.

Although she tried, Eponine was just not the right girl  for me.  She was naive, and I could tell that we could never be more than just close friends.

" I like the way you talk monsuir"

"I like the way you always tease " I replied.  Her attempts at flirting with me seemed to be immature.  Of course to her, they were desperate attempts to catch my attention.  Whilst attempting to ignore her, I felt a twang of guilt. For she was only trying to gain my attention.

As we left the apartment, I scanned the streets for distraction.  Then I saw her.  Her hair was a  waterfall of pure gold, her lips like the roses in the spring, her ocean blue eyes so mesmerizing, I was lost in a trance.  But then she was gone.  I had to find out who she was.

" 'ponine, will you do something for me? "
