Part 5

"Mushy cornmeal? Really? Now we are going to start eating like poor people?" I asked disgusted at the microwaved crap that mom handed to me in a paper bowl. Yea, it looked like someone ate corn, then 2 seconds later had diarrhea and sold it.

"You should feel blessed, honey that your father went out to get a microwave and food to keep us from starving"

"I'd rather starve than eat this crap!" I responded pushing the mush away from me. Then I stood up to leave.

"Now where are you going?!" she asked dramatically

" My room! I'm sick of sitting in the middle of this empty kitchen." I turned a corner and began climbing up the stairs to the second floor.

"She must be high" whispered mom in her usual gossip tone.

"I can still hear you!" I called down. Yea, that shut her up.

God! I just wanted to leave! Not like I hadn't tried, but mom immediately had to stop me. Then nagged on and on about us being in danger until the criminals are caught. But I learned how to block out that annoying nasal voice a long time ago.

I looked out of my window, longing for freedom, and then an idea came to me. I could jump... How many feet could it be, I mean I'm only on the second floor!

Yea! What the heck! I thought. I can do this! I slid up the screen from my open window and sat on the ledge. "Okay... Nice and easy." I told myself.

Then I slowly climbed out until I was hanging only by my hands. Let me tell you that it hurt like hell. I looked down and gasped. Okay, so maybe I under estimated the height of the house. I tried to pull myself up. But who am I kidding; I've never done a pull up in my life. And then I had to keep reminding myself not to look down because it was making me dizzy.

Seeing that I only had one choice, I held my breath and let go of the ledge. Closing my eyes, I expected to hit the hard ground...but something broke my fall, or someone.

"What are you doing?! Trying to commit suicide?" asked Lucy from beneath me.

"No" I coughed. "I needed to get out of there"

"Ever think of using a door?" she laughed.

"I'll start using my door again when my parents actually let me leave the house." I said getting off of Lucy. "Thanks for breaking my fall. I barely got hurt."

"You are not as heavy as I though you would be." she smiled, "Besides; I guessed you had enough to deal with. The soon to be black eye and your baled eye brows" Lucy pointed as she giggled. "You don't need another injury.

"My luck seems to have run out" I sighed.

"It will change for you, I swear." she reassured me.

"Well I hope so because I'm going to go talk to Cole, LX, and Sol and I'm going to need all the luck in the world to get them to talk." I sighed. "Hey, do you by chance have a phone on you Lucy?"
