Ch.11
Staring silently at the red stains that painted his face and shirt, Sage felt nearly on the verge of fainting in the doorway. She watched the spots intently thinking of what she had just recently learned of him, and all she could think was...'blood'.
Trying her best to focus on her breathing before she started to do something like hyperventilate she rocked back on her feet as her eyes fluttered opened and closed, and her mouth hung open like a fish.
To his surprise at seeing her standing at his door, Sawyer's eyes scanned over her face, as if he were taking in the sight of a once in a lifetime imagine. Standing before her, he couldn't understand what she was doing there or why. He had almost expected Bruno to beat the idea in her that she should stay her distance away from him. Seeing her standing in the hall of his apartment building, had taken of his guard.
"Sage," he asked in his deep booming voice that seemed to send shivers down her spine, "what...what are you doing here?" he asked.
As she stood there trying to find the right words to say, or to even manage a sound out, her eyes never strayed from the sight of the bright red stain on his shirt. Trying her best to take a moment to collect her thoughts, Sage found herself fumbling on what she was saying.
"Sage?" he asked as his brows knitted together, and he waited patiently for an answer. "Is everything alright?"
"Y-yeah...e-everything's okay." She said blinking back to reality as she lifted her brown eyes to match his. "Is that blood on your shirt?" she asked hoping that the answer would be no. She didn't care if someone had taken a red sharpie to his shirt and had decided to stain it for whatever reasons, she just prayed that it wasn't the latter.
Looking down at his shirt, Sawyer eyes found the sight that she had been staring at and lifted his eyes back up to hers as if searching her eyes for something that was not visibly there. Releasing a deep breath, he stilled in front of the door, right after placing his hand on the knob and forcing the door to slight close off the sight of the inside of his apartment.
Not for a second letting the movement go unnoticed, Sage felt her stomach drop at the thought of him hiding something terrible inside.
"What are you doing here Sage?" he asked in a curious manner, taking in the sight of her.
"Is that blood on your shirt?" She asked again, ignoring his question, and instead making her voice stronger.
Sage watched as a small smirk formed on the corners of his lips as he slightly slouched against the door frame and crossed his arms, still towering over her, but in a more lazy form. "Parker," he started of in a teasing manner as his dark eyes narrowed in on her, making those shivers sprint down her spine and causing her knees to go weak, "you shouldn't ask questions that you don't really want the answer to." He stated.
"D-don't do that." Sage all but snapped as she stood in the middle of the hall, trying her best not to break down in tears.
"Don't do what?" he asked in pure confusion.
"Don't call me Parker." She all but yelled as she blinked back the tears that threatened to spill. Balling her fist up at her sides, she looked him in the eyes giving him a daring look. "You don't get to do that. You don't get to stand there and leisurely call me by my last name like you used to. I'm not that shy and timid high school girl that once thought that you were out to ruin and use me. That girl grew up and changed. And so did the guy that you once were. Things between us are different, and you don't get to stand there and say my name like that. Now for the last time Sawyer, is that blood on your shirt?" she questioned as her finger pointed out the red stain on his shirt, and she stood daring him to do anything other than answer her question.
