Ch.21

"I don't know, it's been a week and I'm beginning to worry." Dakota said in a apprehensive tone as she helped her sister fold the mountain of baby clothes that had begun to suddenly pile up from nowhere. Shifting her green eyes over to Mila who had been sitting across from her feeding a silent Elijah, Dakota couldn't help but to notice how much her sister seemed to fit the mothering role; after all there was a time when she thought Mila wasn't fit to parent a rock much less than a baby, but there she was talking on her new role like a pro.

"I know," Mila agreed with her as she held the bottle to Elijah's mouth and watched him with a warm look in her eyes "I'm worried about her too. Every time I go over to check on her she's in her room sleeping or laying in the bed, barely moving from her spot. I asked Holland to check on her, and he does what he can for his number one girl, but with so much on his plate with work and with pack work, it's hard for him not to stretch himself thin. I'm starting to think that maybe I should reach out to Sawyer and have him try his hand at it."

"You can't do that." Dakota interjected, as she placing a pointed look on her face. After everything that he was going through with his blood wolf phase, Dakota didn't think that bringing him around Sage while she was at her worse was the best idea. As much as she cared for Sawyer, even though he wasn't too thrilled about Camryn, Dakota just didn't want to risk Sage's life by getting her any more connect to Sawyer.

"I know." Mila sighed softly, hating that Sawyer and Sage seemed to be in a tough spot at the moment.

Although she hadn't been there to witness it for herself, she had heard from Sage about the night her Grams had passed, how she had written Sawyer off an in attempt to never speak to him again. When she had heard Sage's declaration, she didn't too much buy into it, believing it to be some type of heated moment between the two, but as she listened to fierce tone and saw the hard look on her face, Mila couldn't deny the fact that maybe, just maybe, Sage was going to be true to her words.

On one hand, Mila was a bit pleased to hear that Sage wouldn't be around Sawyer now that he was a blood wolf, meaning that her life wouldn't be on the line, but on the other hand, she just couldn't accept the fact that they held this huge rift in between them that only seemed to grow by the second. She believed that as soulmates, that Sawyer and Sage were meant to be together no matter what, and that whatever they were going through wouldn't be so hard to get through as long as they had each other. She wanted them to be happy. She wanted them to be one, and to have everything that her and Holland had.

She couldn't imagine there being a Sawyer without Sage, and she prayed that someday soon that they would find their way back to each other, blood wolf status and all.

She knew how hard it was for her to deny her feelings towards Holland when they had first learned that they were mates, and that she was not mated to his cousin liked they had hoped to be. She remembered how hurt she was at the fact that she was practically staring her soulmate in the face day in and day out, fighting with him, hanging with and laughing with him, thinking that he would only be just a friend and nothing more, only to come to the realization that he was going to be her everything, and realizing that she had screwed up, by not waiting for him. Her choice to stay and wait to find out it if Camryn was her mate, had nearly cost her Holland, who was just trying to do the right thing by giving them some space and letting some time pass before telling Camryn.

Now that she had him, she couldn't imagine a life without him. And as much as she couldn't imagine the though of it, she couldn't understand how Sage and Sawyer were lasting so long.
