Ch.36

Preparing herself for what she thought was going to be a harsh moment, Sage eyes fell on the two women and man that stood in the doorway taking her in. Taking in a deep breath to calm her nerves, she found herself fidgeting with her fingers, not to sure of what to expect.

"Oh my god, Sage," Carson Evans, voice sounded in a thrill of excitement as she stepped around her mother and mate and walked over to Sage, "you're here." She said before bending down slightly and wrapping Sage in her arms, giving her a long hug.

"You had us all worried for a minute there." She said as she sat down beside Sage and grabbed her hand, nearly calming all of the nerves inside of Sage's mind. "I take it that Bruno told you about Sawyer?"

"Yeah, he told me." Sage said as relief once again flowed through her body. "I could hardly control myself when he told me the news. All I wanted in that moment was to go to Sawyer and jail break him from that man's horrible cells. Thankfully Bruno stopped me and talked some senses into me before I did something that I would regret."

"Yes, we wouldn't want anything to happen to you or the baby." Kingsley Evan's hard voice sounded from the doorway as she eyed Sage with a knowing look, causing Dominic Evans and all of their children to turn their eyes on her.

    "Mrs. Evans, I-"

"Sage, can we speak in the kitchen please?" Kingsley asked in a clipped tone before turning in heading in the direction of the kitchen, not waiting to see if Sage was following her.

Quickly shifting her eyes in the direction of Mr. Evans, who slowly gave in to a small nod before flashing her a soft comforting smile, Sage got up from the sofa and made her way towards the kitchen following after her mate's mother, bracing herself for anything that would be said.

Entering the kitchen, Sage spotted Kingsley standing by the counter pouring herself a drink as she lifted her dark eyes up and placed them on Sage.

"Mrs. Evans, I know that I haven't been around lately since I've been back and town and I know that there is a lot that we have to discuss but I just wanted to say-"

"I'm sorry." Kingsley stated as she pushed the tip of her glass to her lips before taking a gulp.

"What?" Sage asked as if caught off guard by Kingsley's apology.
"I said I'm sorry." Kingsley stated again, this time finishing up her drink before pouring her another glass. After a moment of silence, she lifted her eyes back to Sage and looked at her with so much sorrow that it nearly hurt Sage to take it all in.

    "Mrs. Evans, I-"

"You don't have much to be sorry for in this situation, Sage. You're human and you had no idea about who your mother is, or what you were to my son. You didn't have a clue about my kind until the night when you and Holland were attacked. And even with all of that going on, you had just found out about mates, and that you were mated to my son." She said glancing at Sage with shame in her voice.

"I know my son," she stated out loud as she finished off another glass of wine and placed the empty glass on the counter, "and I knew that the moment I told him the truth about you and him that I was going to ruin the relationship that I had with him. As a parent, the only thing that I have ever wanted was for my children to all be happy. And I knew that keeping the truth from him, would hurt both of your relationships with each other, but I thought that it would be for the best."
