Chapter 6 -
Nicki-"I didn't know there would be this many people." I whispered to myself as I scanned over a few of the familiar faces.
It was the day of the community 'Fun Day' my mum had been planning for the last couple of months. Her church raised money to rent a hall with a huge backyard where several activities including fact painting, a mini petting zoo and rides were going on.
"Can you take my picture for me?" Leilani asked pulling me out of my thoughts. I nodded and held my hand out. "Yeah, pass your phone." She smiled and started posing. "What?" I asked when her attention was drawn towards something behind me. "Look whose here." She pointed.
I spun around frowning until I saw who she was talking about. Tatt and Aaron. "We gotta go over there and get them to leave before my mom finds out they're here." I said. "No. Look around Nic. Everybody's here. I'm sure your mom is way too busy to make a fuss about them being here."
"Then you don't know my mother."
"Relax. You're just worried Tatt's gonna slip up about you being with him the other day." She smirked referring to the day we went over to their house to get the rest of her birthday gifts. "No I just don't want no drama."
She rolled her eyes at me and looked over at Aaron, twirling the ends of hair flirtatiously. "Leilani stop! What if your mom sees?" Both my mother and hers were the same when it came to us and boys. Ever since we were little girls they made it clear that our education came first and boys last.
"Let her. I've decided I love him and I'm not hiding this shit no more." Leilani shrugged as my cousin Khy called her over to help him carry some empty boxes inside. "I'll be right back."
While Leilani helped Khy , I went over to distract my mom from Tatt and Aaron. "Hey mom. Do you need help with anything?" She nodded yes. "Actually I need you to go inside and get the rest of the face painting stuff." I was about to go inside when I heard Leilani's mom say something to my mom. "Tina guess who just walked through the gates." I stopped in my tracks knowing who was talking about.
I watched from a distance as she paused what she was doing and made her way over to them.
"You can't stay here." She said with an attitude. Before they had a chance to respond a small lady stood in front of them with a smirk on her face.
"Why not? Were as much part of the community as everyone else." She said.
"Not when they're the ones taking out members of the community. Open your eyes Nia your sons are vicious thugs." I was surprised she was their mom, she looked so young. "Bitch-" 'Nia' started to say but Aaron cut her off before she could finish. "Mom chill." He said pulling her back.
