~The 8th Chapter!*

(Jeff's POV)

I awoke in a strange room, no longer the hotel room. Averie was still in my arms, but she was no longer moving.

"Averie," I whispered, suddenly afraid, my voice quivering.

No response.

"Jeff." An all too familiar voice said from the farther side of the room.

It was Athena, her long hair tied back from her face, allowing me to see her pearl-white eyes.

"What is it? Am I dreaming?"

"Yes, you are." She responded in her melodious voice.

"Is everything okay? What's going on?" I asked, trying to pry Averie's arms from my waist, she wouldn't budge.

"No. Did Averie mention meeting Hermes to you?"

I paused, going back to the moment when Averie told me she had made contact with Hermes outside while she was getting the bags.

"Yes..." I said, mildly concerned.

"Well, that wasn't Hermes out there. I know that he said to stop searching for Averie's father, but Zeus never asked him to deliver that message. If anything, Zeus wants you two to find Averie's father."

Athena's usually stolid and collected demeanor was now scared, and wavered. There was fear on her fair face and her fingertips were slightly shaking. It made me wonder just what in the world we were up against, if it was enough to frighten a high goddess.

"If Zeus wants Averie to find her dad, why would Hermes tell her to stay away?" I asked.

"My thoughts have led me to two conclusions; one, Hermes is conspiring against us – which would be highly illogical, and incredibly foolish of him – or, two, someone, most likely a person with strong powers, disguised themselves as Hermes." Athena said, frowning slightly, like what Averie does when she's thinking.

"But why would anyone want to do this? Are they working with Hades?" I asked, suddenly lost and confused.

"I suspect that whomever is doing this, was never on the side of the gods to begin with. Either they're a minion of Hades', or they were never on other side, but could stand to benefit from either side." Athena said, making her way over to me.

"Who do you know that would do this?"

"I know only of two people that could have this type of power, and would use it against us. One, is our queen, Hera. And the second, is one of the fates." She was sitting next to me now, running her hands through Averie's long, blonde, hair.

"The...fates?" I asked. I didn't know much about Greek mythology, I only know of the Gods I've encountered, and the ones that Averie has told me about.

"Yes. There is three of them, and I fear you have already encountered two."

"Two!?" I shouted, surprised that there were cohorts of the Gods scattered around us.

"Yes. The girls Harley and Riley, I do believe."

My heart stopped. Harley, and Riley? Of all people?

"That is how Riley showed Averie and Liu when you and Harley were in the woods."

"That's how Averie found out..." I muttered, glancing down guiltily at her, who slept peacefully in my arms.

"I'm warning you, Jeff. Keep searching for Averie's father, and beware the fate of the past. As soon as I figure out who she is, I'll be sure to tell you." Athena said, snapping her fingers, and –

– waking me up. I woke up. I glanced down, Averie's arms were no longer around my waist. Instead she was sprawled out on the bed next to me, hogging all of the blankets. I got up and walked to the bathroom, looking at myself in the mirror.

What I saw next, frightened me.

I saw blood, everywhere, my wounds open and I looked how I did when I had killed my family. I backed away and sat in a corner, resting my head on my knees like a frightened child.

Something big is coming, really soon.

And I don't know if I'll be on the good side...
