(averie's POV)

I sobbed more and more as I held Jeff's limp body in mine. My tears came crashing down onto his face as his open, lifeless eyes stared blankly up at me. My lips quivered as I drew in a shuddered breath. This is all my fault. If I hadn't made him jealous, and if I hadn't suggested we go outside, maybe he would be okay.

"averie?" A booming voice, an all too familiar one at that, rose up behind me. "What's wrong? Is Jeff okay?" Slender Man's voice shook with fear.

I didn't turn around to face him–no, couldn't is the right word. So instead, Slender Man made his way around me. Once he saw Jeff, he gasped.

"What, what happened?" Slender asked, his voice was confused and scared.

"Zalgo. I couldn't, I couldn't save him I think he's de–"

"No, he's not going to die." Slender Man said shaking his head in defiance.

A sob rose up from my throat, Jeff's hand was already going cold. Slender Man laid a gentle hand on my shoulder.

"Let me carry him back to the house, and I might be able to save him." He said in a reproachful voice, almost as if he knew I would lash out on him.

And he was right to guess that.

"No! No, you're not taking him from me! He's mine! All mine! I love him!" I shrieked at the top of my lungs.

Slender Man sighed and tried to lay his hand on my shoulder, which I promptly drew back in defiance.

"If you truly love him then you will let me save him, I need to take him back to the house, averie." Slender said.

I exhaled loudly one more time. My breath came out shuddered and with a small whimper like noise before I nodded, allowing Slender to take Jeff from my arms. Before Slender took him, I whispered into his ear:

"Please, please come back to me." I said, only audible to him–I hoped.

Slender took Jeff from my arms and I released him hesitantly. I loosed one more sob before forcing myself to look down at my arms. They were covered in blood, Jeff's blood. I whimpered. From the caked blood on my arms, and how disheveled I looked from pulling on my hair in frustration, I probably looked like a murderer. Like a Creepy Pasta. I began to laugh like a maniac, and soon my laughs turned into sobs. Slender was soon gone. And I was alone, once again.

(Jeff's POV, dreamscape)

I woke up gasping for air. For some reason, my throat was raw and my eyes burned. My chest ached and for some reason, I felt as though something–or someone–was missing. I looked around, my vision was blurred and it was hard to make out ordinary shapes. I squinted my eyes as reality reasserted itself and I was able to make everything out again. I was in a small, white room. It was not decorated in any way. As a matter of fact, the only thing that was there was the plain, hospital style bed, which was right-smack in the middle.

I glanced down at my hands, then gasped. They were regular colored. I then proceeded to grab my long hair and put it in front of my eyes. It was brown, not black. And for the first time since I woke up, I felt myself blink.

"Strange isn't it? Back to how it all was." A soft voice spoke up from next to me.

My head snapped to the direction of the voice. There stood a goddess-like entity. She looked just like averie. well, her facial features at least. Her hair was long, curly, and brown and she had big blue eyes, just like averie.

"Who are you?" I breathed, mesmerized by her uncanny beauty. Just like the first time I saw averie.

"I, am Gaea. Goddess of Earth and its elements." She said in a melodious voice.

"Gaea? You were reincarnated into averie?" I asked, shell-shocked.

"Yes. You are now in the passing lands. This is where the dead come, before it is decided if they go to heaven or, well, I'm sure you know." Gaea said moving towards me.

"I'm...dead?" I asked, swallowing hard.

"Well, we can't say dead. You're dying, Jeff."

(averie's POV)

As soon as we walked through the door, E.J. averted Sally's eyes and dragged her outside. Jane, who was sobbing, motioned for Slender Man to lay Jeff on the couch. I stifled a sob and Jane wrapped her arm around my shoulder comfortingly.

"Is he...?" Jane managed to choke out.

"I can't believe this–he's dead."

I drew in a sharp breath and dropped down to my knees. Glancing down at my bloodied hands, I let loose a sob.

"This, is all my fault. I killed him. If I hadn't suggested we go into the woods he'd be okay!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

"No, don't say that. You couldn't have possible known that Zalgo was coming." Jane said sinking down to my level.

"There's a way to bring him back. And I would like to be the one to risk my life to do it." Laughing Jack spoke up for the first time.

"No, that is no way to do things–"

"I don't care. You all need Jeff way more than you need me. Let me do it." Jack said cutting off Slender's protest.

"What. What are you talking about?" I asked.

"There's a ritual. If you take the life of another Creepy Pasta, it will be given to that of another." Slender said.

"laughing Jack? You can't, give up your life. Is this... the only way to bring him back?" I asked, struggling to find the right words and having trouble doing something as mundane as speaking.

"I have to. It's for Jeff." Jack said.

"But–"

"I'm sacrificing myself for him and that's final. No buts." Jack said.

(Jeff's POV)

"I don't...understand." I said, still wrapping my head around the fact that I was in a passage way between life and death.

"You've seen the scar. What other explanation do you need?" Gaea asked.

In a way, she wasn't like a goddess. She was like a human. Like averie.

"Well, what happens to averie if I don't come back?" I asked, terrified of the answer.

"Simple. Without you, her life spirals down into nothing but depression and guilt. She will die a slow, sad, painful death." Another voice said from another side of me.

"Hades," Gaea hissed angrily.

"My beautiful Gaea it really has been too long." Hades said.

I turned to look at him. He had black hair that was styled like mine and a wide, toothy grin.

"Not. Long. Enough." Gaea spoke through gritted teeth.

"Ah, so is this my new soul?" Hades asked running a long claw down my jaw line.

"No, I'm going back to averie." As I said this, the room began to dissipate before my eyes.

Gaea smiled, "You've lost yet again. Just like you lost averie. She came running to me instead." Gaea said before she and Hades completely disappeared.

I woke up on a table. All bloodied up and surprisingly cold. I looked down to realize that I was missing my sweater... and my shirt.

"Jeff?" That voice, the all-too familiar one spoke up. I smiled involuntarily.

"I'm back."
