The 7th chapter~!

(Averie's POV)

In the end, Jeff ended up getting the bags from the car. Meanwhile, I listened to the relentless rain, pounding on the motel window. I lay in bed, under the sheets, thinking about the agreement I had with Zeus now. I couldn't let others die for my own selfish reasons, especially not Jeff, I love him.

I need him.

I realized.

I need him more than I need anything. He is my everything. I was deep in my thoughts when I was snapped back out of them by the sound of the door opening.

Jeff.

He held two bags, a black one and a red one. His clothes clung to his skin and his midnight-black hair was matted down with water.

"It's raining crazy hard out there. Which is weird, the weather was fine when we first got here." Jeff said frowning.

I got up and walked over to him, "you should change out of those clothes before you get a cold." I said laying my hand gently on his cheek.

He then smiled mischievously at me, "why should I," he paused, "when I have a towel right here!" He said grabbing me and holding me close to his body, lifting me up, and covering me with water.

"Jeff!" I squealed, struggling to free myself. A huge stupid grin was plastered onto my face.

Jeff slowly put me down, leaving the front side of me wet. "Look, ugh," I groaned, pulling my shirt away from my stomach, "you got me all wet." I complained, pouting my bottom lip.

Jeff chuckled ever so slightly, a small smile on his face. His now sky-blue eyes shone as he lay his hand gently on my cheek, "I know," he muttered moving his lips closer to mine, pausing hesitantly when he was a few centimeters away. I ran my fingers up his chest and around, so that they rest at the back of his neck. I pulled him closer to me and his lips met mine. It was slow at first, just Jeff and I, standing in a lonely motel room, wet and cold, our lips joining us. It then turned faster, Jeff's cold hands found their way to my hips and drew me closer to him. He separated from me to take a breath, "I love you," he muttered against me. I only nodded, breathless and hungry for more as I pulled him closer by his shirt this time. I slipped my hands under his shirt as he slowly led me to the bed. As we laid down, I removed his shirt and ran my fingers down his lean yet strong stomach. He was on top of me and he leaned down so that our lips met once more. The kiss was hot, and fast. And somehow, in the heat of the moment, I ended up without a shirt. Jeff moved once more to kiss me again, but I stopped him, remembering that I'm still young, and I'm not ready.

So we lay there shirtless, sweaty and awkward, but Jeff only smiled, crawling off of me and laying next to me. "I understand," was all he said. And it was enough. Not much more was needed to be said in those moments.

A few more silent minutes passed by, the silence slowly ate at me, and I realized I had to speak, or I'd go a little crazy, even though I was in Jeff's arms.

"I," I paused, debating whether I should tell Jeff about my meeting with Hermes or not, "I met Hermes today. Outside." I said, wishing I could yank the words out of the air, just as easily as I put them there. But it was too late, the words drifted between us, drifting, intangible.

"What?" Jeff questioned, his sky-blue eyes containing a new sharpness to them. "What did he want? What did he say? Why – why didn't you tell me, Averie?" He asked, trying to hide how obviously stricken he was. "You've kept information from me again, Averie. Why?" He sat up in bed, running his long fingers through his disheveled light-brown hair.

"I – I wanted to tell you, but, I was scared. And I'm still scared, Jeff." I stuttered, my voice shook and I hated it, I seemed weak, "I just, I don't want anything to happen to you." Tears rimmed my eyes and momentarily obscured my vision.

"Hey," Jeff said, rubbing his thumb in little circles on my cheek, "it's okay, just tell me what happened." Jeff said, a sweet smile graced his lips, giving me hope, false as it may be, that everything really was okay.

"He said," I paused, "he said that if I don't stop pursuing my father, that he'll kill everyone I love," tears were now flowing down my face in steady streams, "I don't want you guys to die, Jeff." I sobbed, moving closer to Jeff and nestling my face into the crook of his neck, his arms were now wrapping around my body, pulling me closer, giving me warmth.

"Hey, I'm not going anywhere for a long time. So, let's just stay away from your dad. It should be easy as that, right? And I know that you really wanted to find him, but I guess that's going to have to wait. I'm sorry, Averie, this might be for the greater good, okay?" Jeff said pulling away from me, so that I may look at his face.

"Yeah," I nodded, "that's what we're going to do, tomorrow we head back, okay?"

Jeff smiled, "we should get some sleep, then, long day tomorrow."

We laid down on the bed, on top of the covers, because I didn't need their warmth when I was in Jeff's arms. "Jeff?" I whispered, on the verge of sleep.

"Yeah?"

"I love you."

"Me too."

(no ones POV, Later that night)

A chill ran down Riley's spine as she made her way past the house and into the woods, the small breeze of the 3:00 am forest provided no comfort as she made her way to the designated rendezvous point.

A few minutes later, she arrived.

"Hey, you little wretch, come here already, damn it, I'm cold." Riley said, hugging her arms close to her chest, in hopes of conserving warmth.

"Well, if it isn't little Riley." Harley said, from behind Riley.

"Little? I'm taller than you. Not to mention a month older, too." Riley shot back, staring down at her little sister.

"Shut up, have you found our eldest sister, yet?" Harley said, crossing her arms across her chest.

"No, that's why I called you here." Riley said, "it seems she might be messing around with Jeff and Averie and we need to get her away from them, it might ruin the plan."

"Alright, I'll keep an eye on them, and an eye out for her." Harley said, shivering, "I should head back, it's cold out here."

"Just, make sure eldest sister doesn't ruin the plan, okay?"

Harley nodded, and with that, the two sisters went along their separate paths.
