Chapter 18 | The red door

I carefully grabbed the golden handle and tried to open the door.

Unfortunately, the door didn't flinch.

Daisy sighed as knowing that the door would be locked.

Of course that I knew that it may be locked, but I still had a tiny light of hope.

But now my light of hope was gone.

"What now?" I turned around facing my manly twin.

Daisy took of her hat and revealed her tight bun, then she slowly destroyed it, her strands of hair now falling on her shoulders.

She held proudly a small metal pin in front of my face.

I blinked as Daisy tried to pick the lock with her tiny pin.

Is the security here that miserable, that it can't stop a girl with a pin?

I shook my head looking around myself for an enemy.

Thankfully, Daisy managed to pick the lock before anyone could have catched us.

This time it was Daisy, who carefully grabbed the door handle and -unlike me- successfully opened the red door.

Daisy looked at me and smirked at her victory.

We slowly opened the door.

I was right. Behind the door was an office. The door was the only thing was red in there. Almost everything was pitch black. From a large desk to paintings on the wall.

This office definitely belonged to someone important.

Another reason why they should secure it better.

Come on, a pin?

I immediately walk over to desk in the middle of the room. Unlike Mr. Arthurian's desk this one was clean and neat. I almost saw my own reflection on the polished black wood.

Daisy seemed busy with searching through bookshelf.

I looked down and started opening every drawer that I saw.

There wasn't anything what would catch my interest.

I tried to open the last drawer.

To my surprise, it was locked.

"Do you still have that pin?" I asked Daisy while I stupidly tried to open that locked drawer.

Daisy turned around showing me her hair pin in her hand.

"Catch" she said and throwed the pin across the room.

"Why do you need it anyway?" Daisy looked at me as I struggled to pick the lock.

But I wasn't a professional like my friend.

"I'm trying to pick the lock on this drawer, but it's not working!" I got angry at myself and kicked the desk, not regretting my decision.

"Let me try" Daisy walked next to me and started working on the lock.

I watched her and sat down on the leather chair.

"It's not working" she said almost hurt, that her maneuver didn't worked out this time.

"Great" I sighed, completely frustrated by the situation.

Suddenly there was a loud noise, I looked up and saw Daisy, who has just broken the lock with an- axe?

"You're carrying an axe with you?" I asked and stood up.

Daisy looked at me as saying 'are you serious' and walked over to a cabinet.

I watched her putting down the axe on a thick wooden platform.

Who the bloody hell would keep an axe as a decoration?

Or it wasn't a decoration.

I shrieked at the thought.

"Do you really think that I'm carrying around an axe?" she laughed at me and opened the drawer.

Frankly, I didn't know what we were looking for.

Maybe a notebook with a sign 'My evil plan'?

Daisy slowly picked up the stock of papers from the drawer and put it on the desk.

I looked through the papers trying to find something like an apology to the society or future plans.

Instead I was holding images of human heart in my hands.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Daisy said still looking at the images.

"I have no idea" I answered and sat down with the papers still in my hands.

There was a picture of human heart on every single one of them.

I could have looked into Elle's books for this.

Daisy asked something but I didn't hear her. I was angryno scratch that, I was furious.

We risked getting caught for some pictures?

"Look!" Daisy said and put page from news in front of me.

"That's Mr.Arthurian!" I looked at the page or at the picture of a dead man.

"See, the owner of this office is somehow connected to it!" Daisy screamed, excited that we found out something interesting.

I looked inside of the drawer hoping that I'll find something else there.

My attention caught a white container. Maybe it were just some pills, but my curiosity was demanding for full observation.

I grabbed a white container and showed it Daisy.

"What is that?" she asked and stopped looking at the page from the news.

I ignored her question and removed the lid looking at the content- pills.

The smell was familiar. I smelled that before, but where? Even the pills looked like something I've seen before.

"Pills?" Daisy said losing interest.

"Not just any pills, those are kyanid pills" I said unsure if I'm right.

It must be it, I remember it. The smell, their appearance, everything matched my concern.

"Kyanid?" Daisy's interest has returned.

"Aren't those dangerous?" she asked.

"Deathly" I answered, my gaze not leaving the white container.

"Do you think, that- that" Daisy started.

"That, that's how they killed Mr. Arthurian" I finished her thought.

"They wouldn't have" she gasped quietly.

We both knew that he didn't commit suicide. We were aware of the fact that somebody killed him.

But that somebody forced him to take deathly pills?

Or maybe he took them without knowing that somebody wants to kill him.

I slowly started putting all of the things we looked into back to the drawer.

"That's unbelievably disgusting betrayal" I said as I closed the drawer, hiding the damaged lock inside of my pocket.

"I know" Daisy responded, still frozen.

The sudden opening of the door surely unfrozed her.

We didn't lock the door! How could have we forgot about that?

Daisy looked at me, her face covered in shock.

I looked at the invader thinking of an understandable explanation.
