Chapter 2 | The troublesome gentleman
The airport was crowded. I mean not that I haven't traveled by a plane before.... But who am I kidding, after Trinity left me with the stewardess, who seemed to say the same thing over and over again, I felt miserable.
I was terrified but also excited about my first flight
"Miss Williams, please follow me," the stewardess repeated louder.
I did as she told me and picked up my suitcase (that happened to be my brother's, because why the hell would I need a suitcase).
Unlike me, the people around me seemed to know what they are doing, I on the other side didn't know what I'm getting myself into.
The plane wasn't as luxurious as I imagined it to be, honestly I realized that just when I got seated next to a mysterious looking man.
The mysterious looking man that I'm speaking of was frankly kind of funny looking. Not the type of gentleman you would like to accompany.
Tanned dark skin, sharp jaw line and a beard. I think that without the beard he would be much more presentable. Dark waistcoat and a tie.
Maybe he was a important businessman? My observation was disturbed by a stern and deep voice. "First time aye?" the man looked at me with a smirk. As I thought, he couldn't be older than thirty?
Oh I'm supposed to respond. "Uhm yes" I nervously looked at his eyes. "Sir" I added quickly. After all he was older than me.
Not that I was a child, but still I'm freshly nineteen.
"You're going to be just fine" after he tried to confront me I reliazed that his accent is even thicker than my brother's, something that I thought I'll never witness.
After ignoring his smirk for a while I couldn't help myself but kept thinking about my home, my bed, why did I even left?
Maybe because of my father that wanted to punish me. Or he just wanted to get rid of me.
I wouldn't even be surprised.
"Ladies and gentleman welcome on the board" the voice continued but I started panicking way to quickly to catch what was it saying.
Okay, okay, calm down Catherine Angelica Williams. You can do it.
Prove them wrong, prove father wrong, brother and Olivia! Do it for your mother. Of course, perfect timing for me to think about me dear mother.
I haven't even noticed that my eyes started watering. My mother was my soft spot. I loved her endlessly, unfortunately she died when I was only nine years old.
She was the only person that actually trusted me and encouraged me no matter what happened.
The gentleman next to me noticed my wet cheeks and gently held my hand.
The state that I was currently in didn't seem to mind, actually I was happy that somebody cared for me, and when I saw his caring look on his handsome face, I was more than happy to hold his hand.
"Miss, are you alright?" his once deep voice turned into gentle and smooth.
"Oh, yes of course" I said, my voice shaking. "Mr..."
"Blackwood, Benjamin Blackwood" yes, here we go with that smirk. He straight his back and gave my a smile filled with genuineness.
"We can talk about it if you want, after all I work as a psychologist" he said with his smile.
I looked at him, not knowing how to respond to that.
"Isn't it bit dangerous to tell random people what your job is, you might as well tell me your pay" I tried to smile at him with enthusiasm, but sarcastically failed.
He took out a book and started to read something in it.
"I'm going to make a mistake for once, you're lucky miss- "Williams, It's Catherine Williams" I interrupted his speech.
"Lovely name, for a lovely lady" he continued smiling as I cringed at his basic pickup line.
"Oh, stop trying to be cheesy" I laughed at his try to flirt with me.
I must admit that I changed my mind, this is the type of gentleman you would like to accompany.
We talked for hours, Ben is definitely great man. I found out that he works as a psychologist, at a school, where he also helps out students that are studying mental health.
However my assumption of his age was wrong. Ben is twenty five.
Basically freshly graduated.
It's great knowing that you have a friend that is a psychologist, I seem to lose my sanity pretty often.
"Plane isn't that bad after all, am I right?" Ben raised his eyebrows and looked at me.
"Maybe it's not that bad after all" I responded happily, finally calming down a bit.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I hope that- the voice that I heard at least twenty times during those twelve hours has interrupted my calm thoughts.
"Finally" the owner of a deep voice muttered next to me.
"We're here?" I asked Ben in confusion.
"Haven't you heard Angel?" why did I exactly told him, that I hate when people call me by my second name?
People around us started getting up, I stood up, but sat down due to a hand wrapped around my wrist.
"It's better to wait, you won't have to stand in a cheque" I assumed that Ben has flew before, so I listened to his advice.
After the plane was empty, Ben offered me his hand with a smile plastered on his face.
Did he escape from a romantic novel?
My head was still processing my first flight as I accepted Ben's help and finally left the seat where I spent those twelve tiresome hours.
I was too stubborn, to admit that he was right, even now thinking about it in a small coffee shop near the airport.
Ben was so kind that, he had bought me a croissant. "Here you go" he put the plate in front of me. "Take it as a goodbye gift" he grinned at me.
My mouth watered as I observed the pastry that was arranged in front of me.
"You're leaving?" I asked even though I knew that he had to leave.
Ben gave another perfect smile and pat me head gently, maybe pretending that I'm a domestic pet- or a toddler.
"Don't worry, I know you'll be just fine" he looked at me with his famous smirk.
My eyes watched him leave the cozy coffee shop, an uncomfortable have of loneliness hitting me.
"Sure, what now" I thought to myself as I chewed the delicious croissant.
