Chapter 22 | The unromantic party

"No!" I protested and stayed still, not moving a muscle.

Archer glared at me and sat on the bed next to me.

"Come, we have a work that has to be taken care of" he tried again.

"No" I squeaked covering my head with one of the pillows.

"Catherine!" he said with a demanding voice, his hand grabbing my ankle.

I flinched at his sudden move and removed the pillow from my face.

"Let" I whispered, my eyes focused on his hand wrapped around my ankle.

"ME GO!" I screamed loudly while trying to free my ankle from his grip.

"Catherine- Catherine stop" he tried to calm me down.

I ignored him, my kicking getting stronger.

"Jesus, Catherine!" I felt his hands holding tightly my wrists against the bed.

I slowly opened my eyes only meeting his face in front of mine.

Somehow, he successfully calmed me down that way.

"Finally" he whispered, his hot breath hitting my cheek.

My eyes tried to look anywhere but his face- his mouth to be exact.

I felt my heart beating furiously against my chest and as I stole a glance of his lips my only thoughts were-

"Ehm" Archer coughed, interrupting my thoughts.

The relazation hit me like a brick and I quickly threw Archer off my body.

"Let's go" I said and stood up, pretending that nothing happened.

It was hard. After seeing his face few inches away from mine, I knew that the situation between us has just gotten more awkward.

I heard a heartwarming laugh behind my back causing me to turn around and look at him again.

His laugh is definitely not hearwarming, what am I thinking?

We're on a mission!

"Fine, let's go" he said causally like nothing happened at all.

I sighed and followed him not caring where are we about to go.

-

"Would you like some champagne?" a waiter aske me holding a glass of champagne in his hand.

I tried to find Archer, who has left me as soon as we entered this stupid party.

Yes, stupid. After all, I was forced to leave that comfy room and find our dear enemies in a crowd of snobs.

Not that I wasn't a snob. I used to be. But that's the past, now I'm just broke student.

"Yes, thank you" I took the glass and sighed at the thought of having to spend more time here.

I slowly walked over to a sofa, sitting on the end of it.

At least the alcohol was good.

My eyes stopped on Archer, who was just in a passionate conversation with a woman.

"Tired?" I heard a voice say. I looked up meeting a face of a familiar man.

I've seen him somewhere. But where?

"Excuse me, but do we know each other?" I asked while observing his features.

He laughed and sat down next to me.

"I wouldn't say that we know each other, but we've seen each other before" he smiled at me showing off his perfectly white teeth.

I raised my eyebrows in confusion.

"Alec?" I said while praying that it's not who I think it is.

The man nodded, his smile not fading a bit.

Oh no.

I tried to find Archer in the crowd to give him signal that I have found our target.

Unfortunately, Archer was nowhere to be found.

"Actually, can you excuse me for a while, I have to find my friend" I returned him a smile as I quickly walked away from him.

Think, think, Catherine.

My feet were acting on their own, and I found myself in the hallway trying to find the right way to our room.

It was on the right, no left. Oh come on. How can I forget the right directions?

Maybe because you were distracted by a boy.

I ran so quickly, trying to get desperately out of there, that now I'm lost.

My hands started to sweat. Apparently, that was my habit now, everytime I get nervous.

I looked around hoping that someone will be near.

Unfortunately, there wasn't.

"Miss?" a voice called behind me.

A huge wave of relief washed all over me. I'm not lost. Yet.

I turned around and my body frozing on the spot.

Alec slowly made his way next to me, his smile not leaving his face.

"Yes?" I tried to sound calm even though inside I was screaming and panicking at the same time.

Where the hell is Archer, when I actually need him?

"Is something wrong?" Alec asked, his tall body leaning towards me.

Is he serious?

"Of course, everything's alright" I smiled at him hoping that he'll let me go.

He looked at me with noticeable suspicion.

"If that's the case, could you tell me how do you know my name?" he asked, his smile slowly turning into a smirk.

I looked at him mentally preparing myself for a fight.

I'll have to take off my heels.

"Oh, I almost forgot, I have to be somewhere else" I ignored his question trying to walk around him.

"Not so fast" Alec grabbed my wrist, tillting it painfully.

"I can ensure you that my screaming is in fact so loud that you'll be deaf for the rest of your life" I warmed him trying to scare him off.

To my surprise he just laughed.

"There's no need for screaming, I just want to know some information" he said, his hand going up to my mouth, covering it.

I tried to free myself, but he wrapped his arm around my waist preventing me from any action.

Why me? Bloody hell, where is that son of a bastard!

"Don't make it harder for yourself, I'm not going to hurt you" he said and dragged me away.

Yeah, I'll answer your precious questions, and then you are going to kill me.

I tried to bite his hand covering my mouth, even though I succeeded few times, his hand didn't flick a bit.

If I'm going to make it alive out of here, I'll make sure to personally strangle Archer.
