Peter was excited. Normally school trips would suck, since he felt bad for not being able to be Spiderman, but going to Oregon made up for the guilt.
Oregon isn't a very interesting place. It was on the west coast, a place Peter had never visited, but from what he heard, it was all trees. Trees were everywhere. Sure he was happy that he would get to roam through a forest (something no one would ever get to do in New York, but even that joy couldn't cancel out his guilt. The answer was one word.
Liz.
Liz has been Peter's first crush. He thought everything about her was perfect, and admired her greatly. He kind of messed up with his chances of dating her though. More on that later.
He just wanted to make up for everything. Now even if it is a small world, running into your former crush in Oregon would be insanely difficult, but luckily, some people on the decathlon team still had her number.
So one of the students texted Liz, and now they were going to meet up at a small restaurant in forest near to the team's hotel. The entire team was bouncing with excitement as they boarded the plane. Ned sat next to Peter, and they got a window seat. Actually, it had two windows. Flash sat in the four seats to their right, Abraham, Cindy and MJ. The rest of their team sat scattered in seats behind them. The plane was relatively full, but not overflowing with people. It was still the school year after all. The plane was equipped with TV screens, but you had to pay with them via credit card, something both Peter and Ned lacked. They weren't bored however, since Ned hadn't been on a plane before, and they talked about the crazy private jet Peter had been on when he went to Berlin. They talked about this for two hours, then shifted to random Spider man stories. When they ate a small lunch that consisted of chicken for Peter, and pasta for Ned (Ned was vegetarian), the two began homework. They finished it, and still had thirty minutes to spare. The left over time consisted of them looking out the window.
They landed, looked around the new terrain. Even though they were in Salem, they could still see trees in the background behind the city. It look like a tiny New York, except with mountains in the background and trees covering them. It was interesting to see the rough landscape around them. They went to a few museums after checking into their hotel. Ned and Peter roomed like always. The room was nice, small, but nice. It had two desks where Peter and Ned set up their laptops. They both took showers (separately you perks), before they met their classmates in the lobby. The day was boring and slow for Peter.
He slept ok that night. He was nervous about leaving New York City unattended for the few days, but soon fell into and uneasy sleep. He woke the next morning early, and woke up Ned when the alarm didn't go off. That day they had a competition, then the rest of the day free. Unfortunately, neither Ned nor Peter had their driver's license, and Ned wanted to just relax in their room. None of the students were supposed to leave the hotel alone, but Peter determined he could take care of himself. Ever since the whole Vulture incident, he had also started trying to not be Spiderman where ever he went. He decided to try to be a normal kid for as long as he could. Sure he loved the thrill of swinging through the city and stopping crime, but he was on 'vacation', he deserved a break.
So he went down the elevator and walked through the lobby. He walked towards the door when he was intercepted by Flash. He was with no one else, since no one on their team really liked him. He taunted everyone, but Peter was his main target. Peter knew what was coming and just stopped and sat down in one of the very uncomfortable chairs in the lobby.
"Hey Puny Parker. What are you doing alone? There is no Iron Man here to save you. Or will you just call him up, since you are such good friends with him?"
"Just leave me alone Flash."
Flash didn't bother being quiet since no one else was around. "Why should I? You deserve a bit of discipline."
