FYI, I updated a few weeks ago with THIRTEEN, but wattpad didn't send out a notification for some reason. So if you haven't read that chapter, then you'll want to do that before you read this one. Enjoy!

"Do you know much about reincarnation?" I asked Owen as he pruned roses that afternoon. I toyed with the petals of an imperfect one he clipped a moment ago.

"Can't you talk to someone else about this?" He replied with a displeased frown.

"I want to know if I can apply to live in a certain place or have a close family. Do you know if I can do that?"

"No. They'll tell you what your new life will be like depending on how well you behaved in the Underworld and what you did to get here in the first place. But I wouldn't get your hopes up. Humans coming from the Underworld rarely get put into a better situation than their previous life. Who told you about reincarnation?"

"Dr. Green."

"Did he now? Wonderful." I scrunched my nose. By his tone Owen clearly did not think it was wonderful, but I had no idea why. I would have thought he'd be glad to get me out of his hair.

Owen perked up and glared in the direction of the manor. "Speak of the devil," he grumbled. "Ms. Sorenson, I need you to hide. Now."

I scrambled behind a hedge of roses and tried to make myself as small as possible.

"Hello, Owen," said the unmistakable voice of Dr. Green.

"This better be an emergency."

"Well... not exactly. But you have alone time every day, so I'm sure you can spare me five minutes."

"What is it that you want, Sean?"

"I think I messed up. With Sang. I told her about brides." There was a long pause. I held my breath and dug my fingers into the dirt.

"Why would you do that?" Owen's voice was cold, hard. Barely recognizable.

"It just came up in conversation," Dr. Green shot back. "I thought Kota had already mentioned something to her, but she had no idea."

"And what do you want me to do about it?"

"Ask him what the hell he's thinking! He can't keep her in the dark forever. And if she finds out the truth of her death the wrong way, he could blow it with her completely. Also, remind him that if he's not going to do it, there's plenty of us waiting in line."

"Can't you speak with him on this matter?"

"You're better at managing him than I am... Besides, he'll actually do it if it comes from you."

"Fine. Goodbye, Sean."

"Later, hater."

I heard footsteps retreat through the gravel, but I bit my lip and held my position until Owen called out to me.

"What was he talking about?" I asked, my voice shaking.

"Ask Mr. Lee," Owen said. I assumed he meant Kota.

"But you know."

Owen shook his head. "Ask Mr. Lee."

"Why did Dr. Green ask you to talk to Kota?"

"I've been around a long time, and I know Mr. Lee very well. He listens to me."

I sunk to the ground and kneeled on a strip of grass. Owen frowned at me but didn't comment. I hugged myself, needing some sort of comfort, but it only served to make me more upset.
