''You see... I am hopelessly in love with a memory. An echo from another time, another place.'' I whispered to myself.

And I remember laying there, quiet. Fading into the silence of four walls and a window that allowed the moon to stare right at me. I felt the goosebumps running up my back as I thought of tomorrow.

Was I nervous about my return to school? Or was I nervous about the people I was going to encounter? Wondering if anyone would remember me after so many years... And wondering if the only person I knew of from that time would be there.

As I was being caught in a carousel of thoughts I drifted off.

The next day I woke up 7:15, realizing that school was in 45 minutes. I groaned as I jumped out of bed in my long t-shirt. I brushed my teeth, washed my face and topped it with a lil mascara, powder and some blush.

Not knowing what to wear, I didn't want to waste my time so I just went with a basic t-shirt and some jeans and you could never go wrong with some low cut white converse. I took a last glare at in mirror before walking out the door.

Boring but decent I said to myself, not noticing that my hair was untouched. It was still in a messy bun from the night before.

When I walked down the stairs, a familiar smell hits me before I get to the front door. ''Daaad I'm late, and you're not making it any better with your delicious pancakes'' I laughed as I walked towards him, kissed him on the cheeks and took a piece and rolled it in a paper before I left the house.

As I got onto the school bus, I look around to see if there were any free spots. In the process of the search for an empty seat, I realized the bus was full of unfamiliar faces as I expected. The only place left, was the back seat.

''Honey, take a seat. We ain't getting any faster to school.'' The driver said and now I was forced to take a seat in the back. Just as I walked towards the back, a lot of them glared at me like I was some stranger. Not to say that I wasn't, I just had this weird feeling.

When I finally took a seat in the back, the bus managed to stop for the last ones to jump on the bus. And I guess this was the cool kids' stop since everyone saved the back seat for them.

''Aye who we got there in the back'' I pretend not to listen, facing my head the other way towards the window. I could feel that they were getting closer and closer. ''She's new'' I heard one of them say. From what I could see, they were four. Four boys. ''She a quiet one'' I continued to ignore them all the way to school.

I was one of the last ones to jump off the bus. And of course, the 4 boys had to be the last ones.

The moment I stepped down to the ground, I prepare myself for the first day by taking a deep breath and i don't know why I looked down on my shoes. But then I heard a voice. ''Brooo!'' I look up and instantly see his brown eyes. His dark brown curly hair. Was he calling me bro?

''Aye wassup man!'' The boys pushed through me as they jumped off the bus. Of course, they knew each other... Who was I kidding? And the guy didn't even seem to notice me. Not until ''new girl'' was being mentioned and he finally turned around and glanced at me before he ignored the fact that I was right behind them.

''Don't mind them'' I hear a voice from behind. I turn around to realize he's one of the four. Or I guess 5.. Now that the curly haired bro-dude is one them.

''Hey, I'm Miles'' he reaches out his hands. And thats when I really got the chance to look at him. His ocean blue eyes sparkled as his light brown hair followed with the wind. ''Ouch'' He lets out a laugh as his hand was waiting for mine.

''Bro you coming?'' One of the boys stopped to call out for Miles while the other boys kept walking.

''My name's Malliah'' I cracked a smile and reached out for his hand.

''Nice to meet you Malliah, welcome to Holliston High'' Miles smiled making his dimples appear as he ran to the other guys who were meters away. All I could manage to do was nod and smile.

''Her name is Malliah''

Suddenly one of the boys stopped for a split second, ''Malliah?'' He mouthed, almost like he was about to turn around and face me.

''Odd name.'' his brown eyes glanced at me but he then turned his face and kept walking.

''Shawn?'' I unconsciously whispered to myself, knowing very well it couldn't have been.

Shawn would've reached out to me.

He promised he would.
