Two weeks have gone by since my last real encounter with Shawn. We kept postponing our project presentation, almost to the point where we managed to make the teacher forget about us. But that somehow came back to me all at once.
As I was sitting in class, Mr. Cullens called my name and noticed that Shawn hadn't shown up to class. ''Do you have anything to present, Malliah? You're the last group missing.'' I almost felt embarrassed, to tell the truth about how impossible it was to work with Shawn, but that wouldn't really change a thing so I shook my head and told Mr. Cullens that I was unable to present alone. At this point, it seemed like he gave up on pushing our group to present so he started a new topic in class and once again skipped our presentation.
After a while, he noticed that I wasn't feeling okay and gave me a free pass to exit the classroom. He then followed me after to check if everything was fine. ''Are you sure there isn't any problem with you and Shawn working together? It doesn't seem like you get along very well in class.'' He asked me as I struggle to explain the problem between the two of us. ''Alright then, it's okay. I'll let you two skip this presentation for now. And we'll find you a new partner. Just make sure to let me know next time.'' He kindly said and went back to class, as I stood by the hallway, somehow kind of relieved that he'd find me a new partner.
All of a sudden, I hear some sobbings coming from the other side of the hallway. The sobbing turned into crying. And as I got more curious to find out who it was, I walked closer.
I saw her auburn hair fall down her back so smoothly that my attention was on her hair and not the fact that she was crying. My mouth managed to form an A in the attempt of calling out her name, but not a sound came out of me when I realized someone was already comforting her.
He wrapped his arms around her. I wasn't surprised by the fact that the two of them were hugging. I mean they are classmates, after all, we all are. But that seemed like a real hug, a long one as well, while the crying? That was a whole nother story.
Ever since I started talking to Ally, this was the first time I saw her crying or even sad for that matter. She always seemed so happy. And out of all people, he was the last person I would've expected to be comforting her.
I just stood there, watching him run his hand through her hair, and how he embraced her in his arms. So deeply in his arms that they both seemed to melt together.
The more I thought about it, the less I wanted to know.
Also probably better off not knowing.
The bell rang. And as soon as it did, they both turned around and caught me standing there.
Ally sent me an unfamiliar look but I chose to ignore it, as seconds later their faces were lost in the crowd of people going to lunch break.
