Chapter 7 [REWRITTEN] : Aurora

I found myself lost in an office when Dante got pulled away by another man as soon as we stepped down the stairs. My eyes fell upon the desk situated in the center at the end of the room and the two dark colored vintage leather armchairs placed neatly in front of it. The room smelled like books and wealth.

In my defense, he did tell me I could wander wherever I like, but not too far. I supposed I was still following that statement.

My fingers grazed across the spine of the books in the bookshelf as I walked around the room. The books didn't look interesting. They definitely weren't romance and that would break my rule: if it wasn't romance, then I would not read it. Then again, I can't imagine a businessman sitting at their desk and reading a romance book as someone pitches in a proposal.

I let out a laugh at the wild imagination and grabbed a random book from the shelf. I sat back on the chair across the old, heavy dark wood desk, feeling the cold leather press against my arms as I rested them widely on the seat.

The second page of the book read, "Success in the Business Industry for Dummies." I snorted loudly, no wonder why the spine of the books was covered.

I sighed in boredom and placed the book down beside me. "Oh, my god," I muttered to myself and fumbled to find my phone from my purse.

I forgot about them.

My fingers never moved so fast in my life as I saw that they messaged me six times within the past fifty minutes.

To Elora and Bexley: Hi guys. Sorry, I made it!

I tossed my phone on top of the book and my curiosity got the best of me as I wandered around the desk.

There was a picture frame and a picture of Matteo and Lucy. Adorable.

I found a paper and pen lying on the desk and I immediately picked it up. Lucky me. Something I could finally use to aid my boredom. I wasn't sure how long I had stayed here, but when I caught interest in a file on the desk, a gust of air loomed in the room as the heavy door was opened once again.

"Alex," I called out as I felt his presence. "Did Dante tell you to follow me?" The question lingered in the air while I turned around to face him, but I still felt a bit flustered with what happened before at the staircase.

"Madame." He greeted me before continuing, "Not to follow you, but to look after you just in case you find yourself in some trouble."

I just smiled. "Does it look like I'm in trouble right now?"

His lips lifted in return. Holy moly, he was dead drop gorgeous. "No Madame, but you might be if you continue snooping."

"I am not snooping," I stated as I placed the file where I found it. "It had Lucy's name on it." I pointed at the file as I looked at him with questioning eyes.

"And that's for Matteo to see. Not you." He shrugged.

He was partially right. I will give him that for now.

I rolled my eyes in reply and stood up from my seat to get my phone. "There is no point in arguing with you."

"I agree."

I think men being irritating runs in their genes.

"Isn't 'following me' and 'looking after me' the same thing?" I huffed under my breath as I snatched my cardigan from the seat. "I mean you must follow me eventually in order to look after me. Like I am a damn child."

His annoyingly perfect eyebrow rose. "Did you say something, Madame? You are mumbling under your breath, and I cannot hear you."

I didn't know if he was trying to annoy me on purpose. "My goodness," I groaned. "I am not even looking at the file anymore. Won't you get out of my hair?"
