Chapter One [REWRITTEN] : Aurora

"Oh, my goodness!" Bexley screamed from the other side of the cafe as she wiped the marble counter down with a towel. "I can't believe that I did that."

Leaning on the counter and setting up the cashier register, I let out a small laugh and shook my head. "You guys never change, do you?" I did not know where they got the energy to be gossiping this early, but I was never a morning person to begin with.

Not to mention, they can't go a day without gossiping about other people's lives. Yesterday, it was about the grandmother across from Bexley's apartment and now it is about a boy next door. Elora was just as crazy as she was, so I guess I could say they are a perfect match for each other.

However, their short excitement was interrupted by a chime from the bell hanging on the door, and I quietly sighed in relief. No matter how much I loved them, getting a break from their ear deafening shrieks was always welcomed, even if it only lasted for a couple of minutes.

A deep, husky voice broke the now silent cafe. "Morning."

"Good morning." I smiled and glanced up from the register only to be met with a man who seemed to be only a couple of years older than me. With his large figure and bulging muscles under his button up and that perfectly panty-dropping smirk he had planted onto his face, attractive was an understatement. "What would you like to eat today?" I quickly added.

"Do you recommend anything?" He retorted, radiating in confidence. Probably because he realized we have been gawking at him like we have not seen anything or anyone as breathtaking.

Definitely not a lie.

He looked perfect with his loose black waves on his head, his sharp and defined facial features, and his trimmed beard. I was certain he was Italian with the hint of accent coating his words.

Well, I do not know about them, but I was gawking at him. Of course, I did not say that.

I could not help but look away from his intimidating hazel-colored eyes. "Any allergies or anything I should be aware of?" I let out a breath that I did not know I was holding in and randomly started tapping the pen I had in my hand because I had to do something before I got too nervous from the jitters inside my stomach.

"None."

"How about a typical pancakes, eggs, and bacon breakfast?" I pointed to one of the breakfast meals on the menu laid out on the counter that everyone seemed to enjoy.

"Sounds good and a black coffee, please."

I nodded and typed it into the cashier register and placed the order through the kitchen window. After he paid and took a seat on one of the window seats, I finally felt like I could breathe.

I brewed his coffee and mine while trying not to look in his direction, but I felt his distracting and burning gaze on me. Bexley insisted on flipping pancakes for him and wanted to carry it out too.

She grabbed the order from the counter and pointed at Elora and I with her acrylic, mauve-colored nail. "Watch and learn." She jokingly whispered before sashaying out of the front desk, a little too much that I had to bite my lips to suppress the laugh that was erupting from my throat.

We don't even bring the orders out though.

At our utter horror, not even a couple of steps out, she tripped and sent the full tray of pancakes and his coffee flying in the air. Everything landed onto the floor next to Bexley as she laid face down on the floor. It was almost like watching a cartoon character fall.
