Seeing the school look brand new sort of freaked me out.
Like nothing had happened three months ago. They had gone all out to try and pretend that nothing happened. I took a sharp breath when I saw the shrine they'd made for Isabella. Yeah I guess I was grateful for people to care about her death, but I was soo sick and tired of people who barely knew her, making long speeches about how sad they were.
'Ugh Fuck off' I would think as they gave their sympathies in homeroom. I would exchange long looks with emily - who was in my homeroom - like what'd they care?
Then there was the big "Your a Hero" comments. NO I'm not. Because Heroes don't fail, and I did. I'd failed to help my friend in time, it was my fault. Deep inside, I knew that.
"Lisa?" I looked up from my textbook to see a class full of students and their teacher staring at me. I closed my book and sat up in my chair, realising she must've asked me a question.
"Sorry, what was that?" I asked.
"I said would you like to read the passage, the Mathew 5:4" She said politely. I knew I didn't get a choice so I shrugged and re-opened my book.
"Mathew 5:4 'Blessed are those who...morn" I gritted my teeth. Was this a joke? I decided to continue. "For they will be comforted". All the teachers had made their lessons to do with healthy perspectives of loss, she'd just happened to be the most subtle. I tried to steady my breathing and remember the fact that she was a teacher and that she probably like they way her face was arranged.I glanced over at cygnet who looked equally as mad.
"Thank you Lisa. Now what does the bible say about loss and loss of loved ones?" She asked making everyones jaw drop. It was obvious what she was doing. "Lisa?". There was a gasp, pretty sure it was cygnet.
"It says to mind your own business and let people deal with it their own fucking way!" With that I stood up and stormed from the room, leaving a very shocked class. Except for cygnet, she seemed pleased.Tears started to form but I pushed them back and headed to the year 11's common room. I dropped my books on one of the desks, resting my head on the table.
"Ms Green wants you back" I lifted my head and saw cygnet leaning against the door frame, arms crossed and wearing a broad smirk. "I knew you wouldn't leave the school grounds, so she sent me to look for you. You've got balls, cake" She smiled sitting down next to me. I laughed at my old nickname.
"Cake" was a nickname she gave me in year 8, and she was "Cig" or "Cigarette" because her name was similar. We'd spent that year trying to figure out what to call Issy. I don't think we ever got around to it.
I immediately stopped laughing at the memory. Before the drama, before the intense mean girls stage, before she....died.
"We'll get there" She assured me giving me a small hug. Then she stood up and smiled. "Seeing as you are definitely not going back to her class, lets go get a smoothie or something". I smiled appreciatively and threw my books in my locker.
I guess i'll never know what else happened in that Religion class.

"Yeah you'll probably be suspended" Cygnet laughed taking a sip of my smoothie.
