Demi
"Demi! Demi!" someone rocked me.
I sat up from my resting position. I rubbed my eyes, Marissa came into my view.
"Yes." I answered tired eyed
She rubbed my back, "Summer is back in her room. She's awake."
'Huh?' I was confused. I shook myself from the grasp of sleep. What she said took some time to register in my mind -then, it hit me. I jumped from my seat and started towards the door. The doctor stood in the way. He put his finger up and gestured 'Wait a second'. Hooray, more debriefing. I turned and slouched in my seat.
He cleared his throat, and addressed everyone in the room.
"Good Evening, I'm doctor Nguyen. I was Summer's surgeon and primary physician. I am glad to say that Summer has fully recovered and is resting in her room now. If all remains well, she will be able to go home in the next few days or so. She is still a little overwhelmed, but you all my visit her now." he informed
He moved from the doorway. In that instance everyone stood and grabbed their things. I noticed that even more people had arrived. Some of Summer's cheer friends had come as well. They carried giant bears and balloons in hand. In the rush, I grabbed my purse and Marissa's hand, then practically ran down the hallway.
Summer
Everything in my body ached. The nurse benumbed me with some morphine, but the daggers of torment I felt in my side had not subsided. The discomfort thankfully did not hurt as I much as it did when I first woke up, but nonetheless it sucked. I laid there quietly, my mind feeling drowsy. My eyelids steadily became heavy. I guess the medicine is finally taking full affect. Dr. Nguyen said I was in a some sort of coma, which meant I had been sleeping for some time; still, I felt exhausted and he said I should refrain from sleeping.
I tried to keep my mind on other things, such as Demi, but only confusion accompanied that thought. Even though I attempted to mend what was broken, obviously my current circumstance put hold on that. Yet, she was one of the few thoughts I filled my mind with. Her perfect smile and the feeling of her holding me, was the only thing that got me through those few weeks I spent in hell on Earth. But was all that in vain? She probably wasn't here anyway. Something told me not to think that way, but I couldn't help it. I broke her heart and in return she probably moved on. That idea killed me. I turned my head to the side to stop the occurring tears. The action of crying only made my side hurt worse. I closed my eyes to trap the liquid.
"Sam?" a voice broke my quiet sobbing.
Suddenly, the bed compressed next to my side and the smell of vanilla and lavender scented the air around me. Only one person smelled like that. Could it be?
I opened my eyes, " Demi?"
It came out as more of a question then a statement.
She leaned over me as her right arm was pressed against the pillow I was laying on.
" Yea it's me," she combed through her hair and chuckled, "the pink probably threw you off huh?"
I looked up at her hair and realize what she was referring too. The locks of her hair were a tinted pink. A smile formed on my lips. She returned the gesture. It wasn't the reason why I was confused by her presence. I was just surprised she was here, for me.
I noticed Marissa standing by the entryway. Demi followed my gaze and turned her head,
"You don't have to stand there Mar." she smiled and turned her attention back to me.
