The Prowl

Chapter 2- Waking up

I woke up to the sound of someone screaming, then soon after, sirens.

It went black again. Then I woke back up to someone picking me up and muffles of a radio. I looked around and saw blood everywhere. I was too weak to worry about my best friends. Right now I'm in so much pain.

I was in a white room with white bed sheets and pillows, assuming I'm in the hospital. I sit up enough to wear I see the full front of my body. I had this numb feeling on my arm, so I lifted the hospital gown sleeve up to see what it was.

Three rough lines were stitched on my arm.

The doctor had came into the room to do a quick check up on me.

"How are Ashley, Dale and Kayla?" I asked with a bad pain in my voice.

"Ashley is still recovering and Dale seems fine." She had noted to me while checking the wound on my arm.

"What about Kayla?" I was beginning to get worried.

"I'm sorry to say but she has passed." She said looking down.

"No." I whispered in shock.

"I'm so sorry Tsubaki, when the ambulance has gotten to the scene, she was already gone." She said as a tear slipped from my cheek.

"Press this button if you need anything, Nurse Fawn with help you." she said walking out of the room.

Kayla is gone? it can't be. It hurts to even think about it. I should get some rest. I'll sleep on it.

~~ The Dream ~~

I was in school and I noticed this boy with brown curls and emerald eyes looking at me. The bell rang and I had went to my locker, after I put my things in my locker and started walking towards my car, someone had tapped my shoulder. I turned around to meet the all-too-familiar emerald eyes and he asked if he could have a word with me so I walked with him to his car and he put duct tape over my mouth and a cloth over my head.

He stopped the car and went around to the other side. He opened the door and grabbed my arm, pulling me to the scent of forest. He took the cloth off and turned me to face him. The full moon seeped through the trees and as soon as the moonlight hit his face, he started to change.

Feature after feature, he was changing. Once the transformation was complete he turned into a beautiful black wolf. He looked me in the eyes and it's like he was reading my mind. It felt as if he and I had known each other for more than a lifetime. But in a sense, it felt like we had the biggest connection no other being. or in this point, wolf and human.

I woke up when someone opened the door. My eyes shot open and looked toward the door.

Ashley had walked in rolling her IV fluid bag.

"I'm so glad to see you! are you alright? are you recovered more than I am?" I had asked as she sat in the chair next to my bed.

"Yes I'm fine, and If I weren't recovered more than you, would I be walking?" she asked jokingly.

We both giggled.

"So, Kayla" I asked after a little bit of silence filled the room.

"So you have heard." She said knowing a little but more than I did.

"Yea. I'm thinking it's because she was mauled first." I said as tears threatened to fall, remembering that night.

"That's what the doctors say at least." She said with tears in her eyes too.

Silence and sorrow filled the room.

"Let's go see Dale." I said.

I feel like a crippled old lady, rolling my IV fluid bag around.

We entered the room Dale was in.

"Oh man I'm glad to see you guys!" Dale said.

"I heard about Kayla." Even he was about to cry.

My doctor had entered the room.

"Miss Okami, the police would like to ask you three a few questions about the incident." She said politely.

"Okay." we all gave in.

After an hour and a half of question-asking, we all went back to our rooms to sleep.

I did nap but don't remember any visions or dreams. Today Doctor Kami decided to discharge us to go home. of course we are friends after all so we waited for each other to finish signing the papers.

Once everyone was done signing the papers, we walked outside remembering no one had our cars. The school wasn't far and my car was there.

We walked to the school and got in my car.

"Isn't it Tuesday?" Dale asked looking at the time. it read 12:25 pm.

"No actually it's Wednesday, and we just got out of the hospital, I don't want to go to school just yet." Ashley said.

"So we all going to my place?" Dale asked.

"First I think we should pay our respects to Kayla's mother." I said pulling in Kayla's street.

"Sounds good." Ashley agreed.
