[Rian’s P.O.V]

It was 6 am when my phone rang, loud enough to wake up a hibernating sloth. But of course Cass was still out cold when I answered it. Everyone had been on edge all week, especially Jack. He hadn’t left his room no matter how much Abby or I tried to rip him from his bed sheets. He was a heaving, crying, mess.

Alex hadn’t come back since the incident seven days prior. The only reason we hadn’t called the police was because he had told Tay where he was staying, but made her swear not to tell any of us. The rest of us, omitting Jack, were just glad he was safe, no matter where he was.

As I groggily whisper/talked a, less than polite, ‘What?’ into my phone I realized that I failed to check the caller I.D. before answering.

“Rian…”

Holy shit it’s Alex.

“Alex! Are you alright? I mean I know Tay said you were fine, but are you okay? Are you coming home? We miss you… all of us,” I basically screamed into my phone, so fast I was afraid he wouldn’t be able to understand me. Of course, Cass was still sleeping like a fucking log next to me on the bed. The fire alarm could go off and she’d probably sleep right through it.

“Hey Ri, Yes I’m fine, well as fine as I can be. I want to talk to you, run down to the Starbucks on St. Pauls street, I’ll meet  you there in 10 okay?” he choked out, obviously trying to hold back tears, poor guy had probably been crying since the night.

“Of course, see you there,” I hung up and tried to get out of bed as unnoticed as possible. I accidentally nudged the corner of the bed and it moved a sheet about a centimeter and Cassadee stirred awake.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me Cass,” I sighed at her

“What?” she almost growled, trying to rub the sleep out of her eyes.

“I literally had a 10 minute conversation and I was basically screeching and you didn’t flinch and I moved the bed an inch and you wake up,” I shook my head and got dressed.

“Where are you going?” she asked as she rolled over and fell back asleep. I walked over, chuckling and kissed her forehead and left.

[Alex’s P.O.V.]

I had been at Aunt Alice’s place for a week now. She said I could stay as long as I needed to, and I was definitely going to. I loved Alice and she almost made me forget about the whole Jack incident. It was like taking a vacation from my life. It was fantastic. The numbing that engulfed my senses seemed to fade when she was around. I had started working at the book store. I wouldn’t let her pay me though, it felt like I was stealing from her when she did.

I woke up about an hour before the store opened and Alice was already up, making me blueberry muffins and tea, it was like happiness on a plate when she cooked and I loved every minute of it.

“Alex, honey, don’t you think, maybe you should call on of your friends? I’m not trying to get rid of you or anything,” she chucked, “I’m just saying their probably worried about you,”

“Maybe you’re right… I’ll call Rian later. Is it alright if I’m late for work?” I smiled overdramatically, causing her to laugh a really happy laugh, like the ones that come from the bottom of someone’s lungs, that makes them tip their heads back, the ones that make you think they aren’t just laughing at whatever joke is present, but laughing at life and feeling happiness at its purest.

She leaned over and brushed my fringe out of my eyes and smiled at me, like a loving mother, “Of course Alex. Take as long as you need. I’ll always be here.”
