*Jin*

From his position at the bedroom window, he watched Sehun return from the garden, solemnly bypassing the house to head home. With as hot as the summer night was, Jin felt cold at the sight of the man's lone appearance. Where was Irene? Why hadn't she come back with him? What had happened? He had so many questions, concerned for her safety and the situation.
At first, Jin had felt threatened by Sehun. However, it seemed that Sehun was the scared one. It would have been reasonable if he liked Irene in a different way but Sehun didn't...did he? The thought was like a punch to the stomach, a realization Jin should have made earlier that day:
Sehun didn't want to be around Irene because he loved her and seeing her would only remind him of a relationship that couldn't exist.
Jin shook his head and sat on the joint window bench. "You and Irene both promised to try to make this work- but what if it doesn't? And what if," He turned his stare back out the window, drops of rain hitting the glass. "She loves him?" He groaned and began mumbling to himself. Frustrated, he decided to make a cup of tea.
Entering the hallway, he noticed Irene's light was off. Maybe she was with Ji-Cheol? The house was deadly quiet, save for the grandfather clock downstairs and the storm that had started to pound the house. "Irene?" Jin whispered as he walked the hall, expecting a reply and getting none. When his foot touched the first step down, there was an audible click from the den below. "Irene?" He quickened his pace down the staircase to greet the young woman.
"I'm fine." Was the shaky response before he found her at the glass door, drenched and cold from the rain.
"You're soaked- Here!" He shed his sweater and laid it over Irene's shoulders before grabbing a blanket off the lounge chair and throwing it on top of her head, wrapping it around her body like a cocoon. "I thought you were already inside. What were still doing out there-?"
"I'm fine, Seok-jin." Irene huffed at his insistence but didn't throw the blanket away, instead pulling it tighter.
Seeing that a direct question wouldn't get him answers, Jin started instead with: "Will you be in the garden tomorrow?"
"I go every day." Was her short response.
"Then, do you mind if I join you? I was hoping to finish that tree."
The young woman took time in giving a response, revealing her runny mascara. "But who will help you?"
"I'll be...fine." Carefully, he took her by the shoulders and led her towards the kitchen.
"Jin-?"
"A cup of tea will make you feel better."
"But I'm-." They entered the room and Irene found a seat at the island counter, watching her fiancé diligently work the stove.
"I know, but," He faced Irene, leaned back against the counter. "You'll get sick." He paused. "Why don't you go change into dry clothes and then we can-."
Irene hummed, her eyes suddenly brimming with tears. "Sounds...great, thank you."
Jin listened as she ascended the staircase and a moment later, shut her door. She wasn't coming back down tonight. He sighed and turned off the stove, not in the mood for a cup anymore. Leaning up against the counter, the man had to wonder- what did Sehun do?

"Before we start in the garden, I want to ask you something." Jin had been waiting for Irene at the back door, a question weighing heavy on his mind since last night.

"I-I'd really like to forget last night." So she knew. "It left a bad impression on you- I can tell. I came to the conclusion that there's no reason to be upset over someone so selfish, no matter what they mean to me." Irene pressed her lips together, eyes glimmering like a glassy pond.
"Look." He took her hand, gaining her attention, and pointed to sprouting weeds on the path.
"What about them?" The young woman relaxed and she set the bucket that she had been holding onto the ground.
"What do I get if I pull all the weeds from the path?"
This sent Irene into a fit of laughter.
"I'm serious!" And he was. Well, half-serious. He was trying to make her smile and would do anything to make that happen.
"Okay, fine." Joo-hyun looked at her wristwatch and picked up the bucket. "You have until lunch to clear the path and toss the weeds away-."
"That'll be enough time. What do I get if I win?"
A smile made it's way to her lips and she handed the bucket to Seok-jin. "You won't." She turned to leave a flabbergasted Jin behind, quickly adding with a wink. "Which means you'll be making dinner for me."
