1. The birth of a new hope (PROLOUGE)
The light outside was blinding.
The smell of daisies and meadow flowers lingered in the air. A few hectares away, there was a large shimmering lake; its water so clear that one could see the endless variety of rocks beneath the surface. No fishes swam in it; there was no life in that lake.
Dylan Everitts was the daughter of a king. She was a princess who had lived in wealth and had showered in love for the past sixteen years of her life. From the vast fields of greens with scented flowers to the grand water fountain in the gardens, it was a common sight to her. King Dave and Queen Joana, Dylan’s parents, were kind and loving; they had given her almost anything and everything she wanted, they had spent years nurturing her to be the best she could, only if she wanted.
Dylan is gorgeous, only that she does not see it herself. She has light brown hair, so light that it is nearing strawberry blonde. Her eyes are as clear as the sea and seemingly changes color under different lightings. She has a ski-slope nose and her rosebud lips are full yet not too pout. She is a good 5’7 which makes her look tall and elegant; her legs are long and lean and her skin is the color of cream.
Princess Dylan has a younger sister, Regina. She is two years younger than Dylan but they were the complete opposites. Princess Dylan is kind, only she never shows it half the time; she is determined and strong on the outside, but under that façade she is soft hearted and sweet. Dylan is beautiful and smart, yet she does not have much confident in herself. She is stubborn and strong headed; but flaws makes one even more perfect don’t they? Dylan always wanted an adventure in her life; she wanted to be the main character in a fairytale. She was a dreamer yet she knew never to get too engrossed in dreams and forget reality. Dylan is more mature than her age and knew things that others don’t, she was a vault of wisdom but it was always hidden under covers. She is timid and afraid of horror shows, and doesn’t like to be alone, yet she was always alone. Her happiness is mostly short-lived however she knew she cherished them. The only time she knew she would not be alone was with her two childhood cousins, Michael and Ron.
A long time ago, four of them, her sister, her and her two cousins had spent most of their childhood together; tears, laughter and smiles they had overcome it all together. In those few years, Dylan felt true happiness, she smiled from the bottom of her heart and she endured those times with the help and support of them. Ron and Michael had seen her in her weakest and most vulnerable times and so had she seen them in their true selves. Being young has its virtue, during then, they were young and innocent. Their lives were filled with truth and hope, no one doubted each other and the bonds and trust they had for each other were undeniable. Ron is two years older than Dylan and Michael, four. Ron and Dylan were especially close, they sought solace in each other’s presence, yet they knew never to get too close. Since young, Ron and Michael were the only two boys that Dylan was close to. Joana, Dylan’s mother, was rather protective and although she did not say it, she disliked Dylan to be near other boys, it caused Dylan to be much conservative and reserved among other boys.
Ron is an ordinary teenage boy. He studies in a local boarding school and does quite badly in his studies, he is not a role model as a student or as a filial son, but Dylan likes him the way he is. He has dark brown hair and a pair of emerald eyes; and Dylan loves the color of his eyes. Ron is outgoing and friendly, he maybe rather straightforward, so is she, and a little rude. However, Dylan is able to control him and cope with him all the time. Ron always seems a little softer around Dylan and they are much closer than anyone else. Michael, on the other hand, is rather shy and quiet. His jet-black hair covers his coffee-colored eyes and he has a slightly low self esteem. However, he is much more caring and kind. His affection for Dylan is obvious, yet Dylan kept avoiding it.
Even though she knows Ron and Michael were very close to her, she knows that one day, they will grow up and leave her. Ron turned eighteen recently and is going for National Service soon. No matter how close and sincere Ron is to Dylan, she can sense that he is slowly distancing from her. Despite how lost and hopeful Dylan is, she knows that whatever she does, she can never bring back those times they had spent together, those which have faded into memories.
Dylan is a senior in a local boarding high school in North Carolina. A princess like her should have been chauffeured to and fro from school but Dylan insists on taking the train everyday. Her parents couldn’t do anything about it either; when she decides on something, no one can change her mind. Since middle school, Dylan has been taking the train to school every morning without fail. In school, Dylan can feel that she is truly herself; no longer that princess of a king, she can enjoy her journey through school without being treated differently from others. Dylan’s character causes her to have slight difficulty in having friends. She is rather picky and does not like to be in the centre of attention; however, those people who are friends with Dylan would have found that she is charismatic and fun to be with. She has the power to attract people and cause them to like her. Either way, Dylan is like a precious stone; hard and strong on the outside but interesting and special on the inside. It was up to the rest to find out.
In school Dylan has three best friends, Louise, Alice and Seraphina, They were the closest to her in school and she felt comfortable and happy around them, they even knew that Dylan was a princess. They were the ones who had made her school life colorful and memorable. Dylan truly loves all of them with all her heart and she knows never to take friendships for granted.
