13. Our first quest

“I really wish I could smuggle that mirror in the toilet,” Dylan muttered, mostly to herself as she squeezed in another shirt into the already filled bag on her bed. She borrowed this bag from Trisha (Aurora’s younger sister) and it was the largest one she had. That magical mirror could let you clad on any clothes, it was so convenient!

The brown cloth backpack had a rustic feeling to it and it was almost filled to its maximum with clothes, thankfully, it didn’t look too bloated.

“Princess, you sure you wanna come?” Derek asked from the other side of the bed. They decided to set out at the first break of daylight where most of the campers were still asleep so as not to attract too much attention. Cynthia said that she would help to mellow down the dramas and tell the other campers the briefest story. She gave them two weeks to go and return.

“You doubt me?” Dylan raised her brows. “I’m not as weak as you think.”

Derek sighed, “I know. Is Dennis okay with this?”

“Absolutely.”

***** Early that day*****

“Why do I have to go too?” Dennis pouted. Dylan rolled her eyes; they had been at this for an hour and getting nowhere.

He narrowed his eyes in jealousy when she didn’t reply. “Why do you go out of your way to help Derek? Do you like him?”

Dylan stifled a laugh at his adorable jealousy. Well it meant that he cared.

“Maybe…and if you don’t tag along, you’ll never know what we’ll do.” Dylan whispered mischievously in his ear.

Halfway through their packing, Dennis came into their cabin and dumped his bag on the armrest beside Derek’s bed. He shot a glare at Derek and Derek only looked back in confusion. Dylan stifled a giggle as she recalled what she told Dennis.

Dennis plopped down beside Dylan on the bed. “So… should we plan out what we are going to do in this fortnight?”

Derek sat on his bed from across them. “Okay, I planned it out earlier. When dawn breaks, we’ll go to the nearest train station in town and book a twelve o’ clock ride to Northville. After that, we’ll find a place to rest and freshen up and grab a bite before twelve. The ride takes about four hours so we’ll reach there around five. Take our dinner, find another hotel, and rest for the night.”

He took a breath and continued, “In the next morning, we’ll go to the town first okay?” He looked at Dylan and Dennis sheepishly; I want to buy something for Allie.”

“Your sis?” Dennis questioned. Looks like he was no longer angry with Derek. Derek nodded. “If it’s okay with the both of you, I would like to stop by the town to buy something for her. Then we’ll take another train to vales and that’ll be my home.”

Dylan nodded, “Sure. Sounds like fun.”

For the next few hours, Derek told them about his family and his sister. Her name was Allie and she was, according to him, the prettiest thing that he ever saw. Dennis visibly relaxed when Derek said this.

As the first ray of sun streaked through the clouds in the dark sky, Dylan stood up and stretched. “That’s our cue to go. We’ve got a long day ahead of us.”

The three of them grabbed their backpacks and hauled it over their shoulders. Cynthia gave them quite a hefty amount of money, hoping that they’ll find a good place to stay for the night.
