THIRTY-FIVE
I jolt awake, in my bed. Yeah, I know, surprising... I'm in my bed. Stiles told me he wanted to see if he can sleep by himself, which I understood. I didn't wake up from myself, no, my phone ringing.
I rub my eyes and checked the time on my clock. It was early in the morning. I looked at my phone to see who was calling me, and none other than Stiles'. What did he want at three in the morning?
I quickly swipe the call, and answered it, placing the phone to my ear. "Hey, babe, what's up?" I ask, sitting up a little. On the other side of the phone, there was a static crackling, making me worry. "Stiles?" You can also hear Stiles' breath becoming heavily, and shakily. "Stiles? You there?""Stacey?" Stiles' voice sounded petrified in a whisper, and his voice was wavery. I sat up fully, knowing something was wrong with Stiles.
"Hey, babe, I'm here," I told him softly, sliding my legs over my bed. "Are you okay? Can you hear me?"
"Stacey... I don't... I don't know where I am. I don't know how I got here." Stiles whispers shakily, making my eyes widen. He sounded scared. "I think I was sleepwalking."
"Okay, um, can you see anything?" I ask. "Just tell me what you see.""Ah, it's dark. It's hard to see." Stiles mumbled. "I think there's something wrong with my..." The phone disconnects, making my eyes water. I then jump up, and I pace around, trying to call him again.
"Hey..."
"Stiles?" I quickly ask.
"This is Stiles-"
"And Stacey!" I hear my own voice over the phone. I sigh, voicemail. He still hasn't changed it?
"And you've missed me. Leave-"
"Us!"
"A message..." I end the call. My hands shake as I hold my phone, Stiles is in trouble. I sigh deeply and I tried again."Hey, this is Stiles-"
"And Stacey!"
I end the call, running a hand worriedly through my hair. I breathe heavily, a few teardrops fall from my cheek as I pace around my room. I gulp.
"God, come on," I mutter worriedly, staring down at my phone. "Come on." Stiles started to ring again and I gasp, picking it up. "Babe,"
"Stacey, I don't think I can get out of here." Stiles shakily said over the phone as I stand in the doorway of my room. I'm about to wake up Scott and Isaac. "I can't move."
"Where are you?" I worry."I don't know." His voice wavered. "I don't know, it's too dark. I can't see much and something's wrong with my leg." My stomach dropped. "It's stuck on something. And it's... I think it's bleeding."
"How bad?" I rushed out. "Stiles, how bad is it?" He didn't answer, which made my heart beat faster. "Stiles, are you there? Can you hear me?""Ah, there's some kind of smell down here." Stiles continued over the phone, his voice wasn't as shaky as before. "Something smells terrible," he shakily said. He sounded like he was crying. "It's brutal. My eyes are watering."
"Baby, listen, I'm gonna call your dad-"
"No, no no," Stiles rushed out. "Don't."
"But your dad..."
"Don't." Stiles begged. He sniffed. "Just please don't call him. Promise you won't. He already worries about me too much. Stacey, please."
"But what if I can't find you?" I panic, thinking of the worse. "Stiles, I can't make that kind of promise."
"No, no, no, no just please." He cried. "Please, don't call him." My head was spinning. "Come and find me. You can do it, I love you, Stacey,"
"No, Stiles, don't say that... you're not saying goodbye," my voice cracks.
"He doesn't have to know, Stace... you can find me."
"I don't know if I can do this," I whisper.Stiles sniffed. "Oh, I gotta call you back. I have to turn off the phone, I love you,"
My eyes widen. "What? No, babe, wait..."
"I'm gonna call you right back."
"Hold on, Stiles, wait..." I tried, but he had cut me off by hanging up on me. I pant, as I rushed to the light. I turn it on. "Isaac! Scott!" I scream out as if I had been murdered. "Scott, Isaac! Get up, please!" I beg. "I need your help!" I get a clean top on, and some shoes as fast as I could. "Scott-"
Soon, Isaac and Scott entered my door, my eyes balling. "Why? What's wrong? What happened?" Isaac quickly asks my lip quivers.
"It's Stiles, get dressed," I told them.
"What's wrong with Stiles?" Scott asked.I turn my head to them. "I don't know."
✢Scott, Isaac, and I rush downstairs, I'm holding Scott's helmet, and Isaac is gonna run beside me and Scott. We enter the living room. I jumped when my phone starting ringing. It was Stiles.
I answer it, dropping the helmet. "Hey, babe," I quickly said.
"Did you call him? Did you call my dad?" Stiles whispered out.
"No, just Isaac and Scott. We're coming to find you, don't worry," I reassured him. "Can you figure out where you are? Try to find something and tell us where to look, okay?"
"It's a basement." He responded, shakily. "I don't know, some kind of basement."
"In a house?"
"No. It looks bigger. Like industrial." Stiles whispered. "I think there's a furnace. But it's cold, it's freezing down here." My eyes started to beat faster. "I gotta... I gotta turn the phone off. It's gonna die, I- I love you," my eyes began to water again.
"Wait, wait, wait," I whisper. "What else is there? What else do you see?"
"The phone's dying, I can't talk." Stiles said. "I have to go," he whispers. "Please..."
"Stiles, why are you whispering?" I ask."Because I think there's someone in here with me." Stiles whispered, my heart hurt.
✢
Scott, Isaac, and I enter Stiles' room. He wasn't there, only Lydia and Aiden. "How did you know? Did he call you too?" I ask.
"I heard it." Lydia said.
"Don't ask," Aiden said after. "It's more confusing when you ask.""Not as confusing as this," Lydia said, turning around. His strings were attached to scissors, the red string from the crime board. And his scissors were in his bed.
I turn to the others. "He uses red for unsolved cases," I told them.
"Maybe he thinks he's an unsolved case?" Aiden asked."Or is an unsolved case." Isaac said.
"Hold on. Is he still out there?" Lydia asked. "You don't know where he is?"
"He said he's an industrial basement somewhere," Scott said.
"We came here to get a better scent," Isaac added.
"What else did he say?" Lydia connects her eyes with me.
"Something's wrong with his leg." My voice cracked, and I cleared my throat. "It- it's bleeding. And he's freezing."
"Tonight's the coldest night of the year," Aiden said. My eyes widen. "It's gonna drop in the 20's."
"What did his dad say?" Lydia asked."We kind of... we didn't tell him yet," Scott slowly said.
"Stiles is bleeding and freezing and you have told his dad?" Lydia asked.
"He made me promise not too," I bit my lip."We can find him by scent." Scott added. "If he was sleeping walking he couldn't have gone far, right?"
"You didn't notice his Jeep is gone, did you?" Aiden informed us, making me frown.
"You promise you wouldn't call his dad. I didn't," my heart raced at my best friend's words.
"Wait, Lydia, hold on, please," I beg. "We can get more help, I can call for Derek, Allison..."
"Everyone expect for the cops. Great idea," Lydia bickered. I ran a hand through my messy hair, I don't know what to do.
"You guys remember Lydia and Stacey gets these feelings when someone's about to die, right?" My eyes widen, Aiden was right.
"You don't have to call his dad." I told Lydia. "It's five minutes to the station."
Lydia held up an arm, stopping Aiden from moving. "We'll catch up,"
Isaac, Scott, and I stop at Stiles' door. "What? Why?" Scott asked.
"There is something here." Lydia said.
"I can't feel it." I bit my lip.
"Yeah, evidence of total insanity," Isaac scoffed.
"We can figure out what's wrong with him after we find a way to keep him from freezing to death," my brother told us, I forgot about that.
"Go. We'll be right behind you." Lydia said.
